What happens after you press stop?
Leave Loom with your videos, not just your links.
Recording a screen, storing a video and sharing a link are three different jobs. Plan each one before you move a team away from a hosted video service.
Open checklistWhat will this software really cost?
A monthly equivalent, a one-time purchase and a free edition are not interchangeable. Compare the same number of people over the same period.

Separate recording from sharing
Screen, camera and microphone capture are only the start. Decide whether the replacement also needs to host videos, generate links and control who can watch. A local recording app can be useful without being a complete substitute for a hosted library.
Review existing recordings and links
Check ownership and export permissions in your current plan. Download a permitted sample and verify duration, sound and playback. Make a list of links embedded in documentation or onboarding material: exporting the files does not update those references.
Test one recording with a real recipient
Create a short representative video, deliver it using the replacement workflow and have the recipient open it without your signed-in session. Verify the access rules, captions and download behavior you require. Include any separate storage or hosting charges in the migration decision.
Common questions
Can I keep using my old video links after switching?
Do not assume so. Check the current provider’s plan and cancellation terms, keep permitted exports and record where each old link needs to be replaced.
Should I compare the number of creators or viewers?
Start with the people who need recording licenses, then check the vendor’s specific seat rules. Viewer access, storage and retention can have separate limits.
Does a downloaded file update old Loom links?
No. Exporting a video does not change the links embedded in documents. Keep a migration ledger and replace each reference after checking the new destination.
Do you test paid plans?
We currently use attributed user reports and official sources for paid editions. These do not count as our own hands-on results.
Where can I see the recording protocol?
The Testing page describes the five-minute screen, camera and microphone fixture and the signed-out sharing checks.
