|---|---|---|

| Videos you can keep | 25 videos per person on the pricing page. The storage article includes archived videos in that 25 and says new recordings stop at the limit. Videos have no expiration date on the length article. | Business, Business + AI and Enterprise have unlimited storage on the length article and the plans article. |
| Screenshots | The pricing page and the storage article say screenshots are unlimited and do not count toward the 25 videos. The Starter FAQ says “Up to 25 videos and screenshots”. | The pages checked do not add a separate screenshot cap for paid plans. |
| Download an MP4 | Starter Free cannot download, including admins and creators. | Business and Business + AI: admins and creators. Enterprise: admins and members. Education: admins only. Creator Lite: not on any plan. The file is an MP4. |

The five-minute cap is a screen-recording limit
Loom’s “How long can I record?” article says Starter users have a five-minute recording duration limit. The timer under the Stop button starts at 5:00 and counts down to 0:00, and the recording ends there. The timer article repeats the five-minute Starter limit and the countdown from 5:00, and says the desktop app shows the timer inside the Stop button. The plans article calls Starter a free plan with a 5-minute recording limit and 25-video storage. The pricing table’s screen-recording row says “5 min per video” for Starter. On Business, Business + AI and Enterprise, the length article and the plans article say recording time is unlimited, and the pricing table says the same for screen recording length. The Chrome extension checks in after two hours to confirm the recording is still intentional; that sentence is a check-in, not a published stop time. Separately, the differences article says those paid plans include “recording length up to 6 hours”. Both wordings were on the official pages on 21 October 2026. This guide does not treat one of them as a correction of the other.
Meeting length is a different row on the pricing table
The pricing comparison table lists meeting recording length as Unlimited for Starter, Business, Business + AI and Enterprise. The note on that row says to connect a calendar to store meetings from Zoom, Google Meet and Teams in Loom. The same table keeps Starter screen recordings at five minutes per video. The five-minute help article does not mention this meeting row, so a screen recording and a stored meeting are not interchangeable in the documents checked for this guide. The download article adds a separate rule for meeting recordings that are eligible to download: only the meeting organizer can download that video.
Twenty-five videos, with two wordings for screenshots
The pricing page lists 25 videos and up to 25 videos per person on Starter, plus unlimited screenshots. The storage article says that when the library reaches 25 videos, including archived videos, a Starter plan cannot create new recordings, and that screenshots do not count because screenshot storage is unlimited. The count appears in the Library next to the Search bar. The length article repeats the 25-video Starter limit and says there is no expiration date; videos stay until you delete them. The Starter FAQ’s include-list says “Up to 25 videos and screenshots” and notes that the video count includes archived videos. Its downgrade answer says Loom will not delete videos or screenshots above that number; you will not be able to record more until you upgrade to a paid Business account. Those pages were all live on 21 October 2026 and they do not use one sentence for screenshots. Use the Library counter for the number of videos, and keep the FAQ’s “and screenshots” wording visible rather than dropping it.
Starter Free does not include a download
The download article’s plan list gives download permission to Business and Business + AI admins and creators, Education admins, and Enterprise admins and members. It then says admins and creators on the Starter Free plan cannot download videos, and Creator Lites cannot download videos on any plan. A later section repeats that the download feature is only on Business, Business + AI or Enterprise, and that Starter Free users cannot download. The pricing page puts “Upload and download videos” in the Business list of additions over Starter. A creator on an eligible paid role can allow downloads for viewers who are signed in. Viewers who are not signed in, or who are on the Starter free plan, cannot download regardless of that setting. When a download is allowed, Loom says the file is an MP4. Trims are kept. Calls to action, filler-word and silence removal, chapters and closed captions are not included in the downloaded file. Videos that use Variables cannot be downloaded. Loom also says you cannot download a video over 20 GB, and describes 20 GB as about three hours recorded in 4K. An Enterprise admin can turn downloads off for the whole organization.
A paid role can still be on the five-minute plan
The remove-limit article says a five-minute cap on a paid subscription is usually the wrong account on the recorder, or a default workspace that is free. It applies the cap to the free Starter plan and to limited roles such as Creator Lite. An ended trial can revert to the free plan. The default workspace is where videos are stored and which recording features apply. The roles article says free users and Creator Lites, and admins on a Starter free plan, record and edit within the Starter limits: 25 videos and five minutes. Paid Creator roles on Business, Business + AI and Enterprise are the roles with full recording access. If you signed up after February 2026, that article says the account has Admin and Creator roles only, and Creator Lite is deprecated for new users after February 2026 and for existing users on a rolling basis. Starter’s member count is also split across pages: the pricing page lists up to 50 members, the FAQ and roles article list up to 50 Creator Lite accounts, and both help articles limit an Atlassian-integrated Starter workspace to 10 free users. Loom says an account is integrated if it signed up after February 2026, or if a legacy workspace shows “Loom is now a part of Atlassian. Manage settings and users in Atlassian Administration.” at the top of Workspace Settings.
Prices displayed for longer recordings
On 21 October 2026 the pricing page displayed Starter at $0, Business at $18 per user / month, and Business + AI at $24 per user / month. The page’s plan data lists monthly amounts of 0, 18 and 24 USD and annual amounts of 0, 180 and 240 USD for those three plans. The pricing FAQ says you can be billed monthly, but you save 17% if you pay annually. It also says Loom.com annual subscriptions are charged by the distinct number of paid users, billed annually, while Atlassian.com annual subscriptions use user tiers. The same FAQ says some feature access differs between a Loom.com purchase and an Atlassian.com purchase, and dates that note from 23 October 2024. Enterprise’s card says Contact Sales and does not display a dollar price. Business + AI has a 14-day trial on that FAQ; an Enterprise trial is offered by contacting sales. The Starter FAQ says Starter is free. None of these amounts was checked out, taxed or confirmed in a billing account for this guide.
A worked example using only those documented limits
Someone on Starter needs a 12-minute screen walkthrough and a copy of the file on their computer. The length article ends a Starter screen recording at 0:00, so one Starter screen recording does not cover 12 minutes. If the library already holds 25 videos, including archived videos as the storage article counts them, that article says a new recording cannot be created. The Starter FAQ’s documented way to record again is to upgrade to a paid Business account; it says existing videos are not deleted. The download article says the Starter Free plan cannot download the MP4. A meeting stored from Zoom, Google Meet or Teams is the row the pricing table marks Unlimited on Starter; this example does not move the 12-minute screen walkthrough onto that row. The numbers above are the published limits applied to a made-up situation. We did not create this recording in Loom.
When the limit is the reason to leave
A hosted Starter link can still be the right tool for a short screen recording that viewers can watch in Loom. It is a poor fit when the recording must run past five minutes, when a 26th video has to be created, or when the recipient needs an MP4 from a Starter workspace. The leave-Loom checklist covers ownership, eligible downloads and the links that a download does not rewrite. The Loom alternatives page and the Loom Starter and Business records separate a hosted library from a local file. OBS Studio and Clipchamp are listed there as other recording candidates, with their own documented limits. Choosing one of them is a scope decision. It is not a test of Loom.
Scope of this guide
We read the linked Loom pricing page and Atlassian Support articles on 21 October 2026 and wrote this guide from them. We did not install, run or time Loom, sign in, record a video or download a file for this guide, and nothing here is a hands-on test result. Plan names, roles and menus can differ for Atlassian-integrated accounts, legacy workspaces and Education plans; check the plan and role shown on your own account.
Common questions
What are Loom’s free plan limits in 2026?
Loom’s free plan is Starter. Official pages checked on 21 October 2026 limit a Starter screen recording to five minutes and the library to 25 videos, including archived videos on the storage article. The pricing page displays Starter at $0, and the Starter FAQ says it is free. People on the Starter Free plan cannot download videos. The pricing table also lists Unlimited meeting recording length on Starter for meetings stored from Zoom, Google Meet and Teams. Screenshots are unlimited on the pricing page and the storage article; the Starter FAQ also says “Up to 25 videos and screenshots”.
Does the Loom Starter plan have a 5-minute limit?
Yes for a screen recording. Loom’s length article says the Starter timer starts at 5:00 and the recording ends at 0:00, and the pricing table says “5 min per video”. The same pricing table lists meeting recording length as Unlimited on Starter. Business, Business + AI and Enterprise have unlimited recording time on the length article; the differences article also describes paid recording length as up to 6 hours. A Creator Lite role keeps the five-minute Starter limit even on a legacy paid workspace that still has that role. An ended trial can return an account to the free plan.
Can you download Loom videos on the free plan?
No. Loom’s download article says admins and creators on the Starter Free plan cannot download videos, and Creator Lites cannot download on any plan. Viewers on the Starter free plan, and viewers who are not signed in, cannot download someone else’s video even when downloads are turned on. On Business and Business + AI, admins and creators can download. On Enterprise, admins and members can download, unless an admin has disabled downloads. Education downloads are for admins only. An allowed download is an MP4. Trims are kept; calls to action, filler-word and silence removal, chapters and closed captions are not in the file. Variables videos cannot be downloaded, only the meeting organizer can download a meeting recording, and videos over 20 GB cannot be downloaded.
How many videos can you store on Loom Starter?
The pricing page says up to 25 videos per person. The storage article says 25 videos, including archived videos, and that new recordings stop at that number. Screenshots do not count on that article. The Starter FAQ says “Up to 25 videos and screenshots”. Videos are not given an expiration date on the length article. If you downgrade with more than 25, the FAQ says Loom will not delete them and you will not be able to record more until you upgrade to a paid Business account.
How much does Loom cost if you need longer recordings?
On the pricing page checked 21 October 2026, Business is displayed at $18 per user / month and Business + AI at $24 per user / month. The page says paying annually saves 17%, and its plan data lists annual amounts of 180 USD and 240 USD. Enterprise uses Contact Sales and does not show a dollar price. Business + AI has a 14-day trial, which is separate from free Starter. The pricing FAQ says a Loom.com annual bill and an Atlassian.com annual bill are calculated differently. Those are listed prices, not a checkout completed for this guide.
