Record a Zoom or Teams Call on Mac With Internal Audio — a practical WhatsNew2Day switching guide
What the pages checked on 1 November 2026 say about a Zoom or Teams recording and about Mac audio. Each sentence stays on the page that printed it.
PageRecording or notice that page describesAudio sentence on that pageWhat that page does not say
Zoom: Starting a computer recordingComputer recording for a Basic (Free) account or above, in the Zoom desktop app for Windows, macOS, or Linux. The host records, or grants Allow Record. Record on this Computer. Participants see an indicator in the top-left corner. Dial-in participants hear a message unless disabled by the host. After the meeting, Zoom converts the file.Meeting video and audio, saved locally. The MP4 is named video[number].mp4. The audio-only M4A is named audio[number].m4a. The host can record a separate audio file for each participant, and each file name begins with the participant’s name. Computer recordings do not support audio transcription. It does not name Screenshot, QuickTime Player, OBS Studio, or Screen & System Audio Recording. It does not say the recording captures other Mac apps. The find-recordings article, not this one, prints the Mac folder /Users/[Username]/Documents/Zoom and says computer recording is not supported on the Zoom mobile app.
Zoom: Modifying recording notification prompts“Zoom will always notify meeting participants that a meeting is being recorded.” Desktop and mobile participants see a recording consent disclaimer. Phone participants hear an audio prompt. For Basic, Pro, Business, and Free Trial accounts with less than 100 licenses, the disclaimer can’t be disabled or customized. For Enterprise, API, Education, or Business accounts with 100+ licenses, owners and admins can disable it for internal participants. Guest participants still get the disclaimer. The article is about the recording notice, not about which audio device is captured. It says participants who join by phone will always hear a voice prompt. Voice prompts for people on a Zoom client can be disabled. It does not name Screenshot, QuickTime Player, or OBS. It does not reconcile its phone sentence with the computer-recording article’s “unless disabled by the host” sentence. Those stay on their own pages.
Zoom: Starting a cloud recording, and finding recordingsPaid cloud recording. Only hosts and co-hosts start it. Desktop steps: More, Record, Record to the cloud. The indicator is in the top-right corner. Files are in the Zoom cloud. A participant who needs a computer file uses computer recording or becomes a co-host.Video, audio, and chat text are recorded in the Zoom cloud. The find-recordings page says cloud recording is for paid accounts. The desktop steps do not name system audio or Screenshot. The mobile note says it is not possible to record to computer files from iOS or Android. The page does not display a dollar amount.
Teams: Start, stop, and find meeting recordingsMore actions, then Record, then Confirm. One person records at a time. Everyone is notified automatically. All participants get a notification in the desktop, web, or mobile app. Depending on the region, the page says you may need everyone’s permission, and it points to the Microsoft Privacy Statement. Storage is OneDrive for work or school and SharePoint.Meeting recordings capture audio, video, and screen sharing activity. Audio only is a choice in Choose what to record. It does not name a country. It does not display a price. It does not name Screen & System Audio Recording, Screenshot, or OBS. The license list and the guest limit stay on this page.
Teams: Record and transcribe callsA one-to-one call, not the meeting article. More actions, Record and transcribe, then Start recording. Everyone sees a notice and a banner. If the admin requires agreement, the other person is muted, with camera and sharing off, until they agree. If they do not agree, recording continues and they cannot unmute or turn the camera on.Recording saves audio, video, and screen sharing. The recording is saved to OneDrive. Only the person who started it can share or download it.It does not name Screenshot or the Mac permission pane. It does not say this call rule is the meeting rule.
Apple: Screen & System Audio Recording, and the menu barApple menu, System Settings, Privacy & Security, Screen & System Audio Recording. Turn recording on or off for each app, or add an app. Teams’ present-from-a-Mac section tells you to turn on the Microsoft Teams toggle in that pane before you present, and it mentions macOS Sequoia 15.2 prompts. You can allow an app to record both the screen and audio, or just the audio. A purple dot in the menu bar indicates the system audio is being recorded. Only one privacy indicator dot is shown at a time. The permission article does not name Zoom, Teams, or OBS. The menu bar article does not name Screenshot. The Teams share section does not describe the meeting Record control. Its version 26.4+ line is a troubleshooting sentence.
Apple: Screenshot user guide, QuickTime record page, and the 14 September 2026 screen-recording articleShift-Command-5 opens Screenshot. The user guide’s record tools are the entire screen, a window, or a portion. To stop, click in the menu bar. Recordings are .mov files. QuickTime’s File, then New Screen Recording, opens Screenshot. The 14 September article’s stop control is the Stop button in the menu bar, or Command-Control-Esc. Record Selected Window is available in macOS Tahoe 26 or later on that article. The user guide lists Microphone, or None. It does not print Include System Audio. The 14 September article says choose a microphone for your voice or other audio, and choose Include System Audio in macOS 27 Golden Gate or later. QuickTime’s own Screen Recording window, on that article, lists a microphone and does not say Include System Audio.None of these pages names Zoom or Teams. The user guide does not print “Stop button.” The 14 September article does not say the user guide was rewritten to match it. Neither page displays a price or says free.
OBS: macOS Desktop Audio Capture Guide, dated 2022-04-19, and macOS Screen Capture, dated 2023-01-22OBS Studio 30 on macOS 13 (Ventura) and higher uses macOS Audio Capture for all desktop audio or one application. OBS Studio 28 and 29 on macOS 13 and higher use macOS Screen Capture, and hiding that source removes the audio. Application Capture or Window Capture selects one application or window. Older macOS needs additional software. The page names VB-CABLE, Loopback, and Sound Siphon. The screen-capture page says available with audio on macOS 13 and higher, and available without audio on macOS 12.3-12.6. On macOS 13 and later the source can also capture audio. VB-CABLE does not support per-application audio capture.Neither page names Zoom, Teams, or a participant notice. Neither page names Screen & System Audio Recording. Neither page displays a dollar amount. The “free and non-free” phrase is the older-macOS sentence. It is not a price.

The meeting’s own Record control is not a Mac screen recording

Zoom’s computer-recording article and Teams’ meeting article describe buttons inside the meeting. Those buttons are what the notification articles talk about. Screenshot, QuickTime Player, and OBS Studio are described on different pages, and those pages do not say they start Zoom’s indicator or Teams’ banner. Using one does not become the other because both can end up as a movie file. A host who can press Record on this Computer, or a Teams user who can press Record, is in the meeting product’s recording. A person who is recording the Mac screen is in the Apple or OBS pages. This guide did not join a call, so it does not report which indicator appeared.

Zoom’s meeting audio is in the computer recording, on the Mac path the find page prints

The computer-recording article is the page that says the recording includes meeting video and audio and is saved on the computer. Record on this Computer is the menu choice. The top-left indicator, the Participants list, and Allow Record are on that page. The Mac folder /Users/[Username]/Documents/Zoom is on the find-recordings page, together with the sentence that the Zoom mobile app does not support computer recording. Cloud recording is the paid path: hosts and co-hosts, Record to the cloud, a top-right indicator on the desktop steps, and video, audio, and chat text in the Zoom cloud. The notification article is the consent page. Its opening sentence says Zoom will always notify participants that a meeting is being recorded. The same article then says which disclaimers an admin can change, and it says phone participants always hear a voice prompt. The computer-recording article says the dial-in message plays unless the host disables it. This guide does not merge those two sentences into a third rule. None of these Zoom pages says the recording includes audio from a different Mac app.

Teams notifies participants from its own Record control, and a call is not a meeting

The meeting article is the page that says everyone is notified automatically, that a notification appears in the desktop, web, or mobile app, and that a region may require everyone’s permission. The country list is not on that page. The page points to the Microsoft Privacy Statement and does not quote it here. Audio is part of what a meeting recording captures, and Audio only is a separate choice in the same Record control. The license names, the same-organization rule, and the Teams Premium choices for who can record stay on that article. The one-to-one call article is the page with the agreement prompt: muted, camera off, and sharing off until the other person agrees, and recording continues if they do not agree. Storage for the meeting is OneDrive for work or school and SharePoint. Storage for the call is OneDrive, and only the person who started the call recording can share or download it. Neither article describes Screenshot.

Screen & System Audio Recording is the Mac permission, including the Teams share prompt

Apple’s permission article is the page for which apps may record the screen and audio, or only the audio. The menu bar article is the page for the purple dot when system audio is being recorded, and for the rule that only one privacy indicator dot shows at a time. Teams’ present-from-a-Mac section is the page that tells a Mac user to allow screen recording before sharing, and to turn on Microsoft Teams under Screen & System Audio Recording. That section also prints the macOS Sequoia 15.2 prompt and the version 26.4+ troubleshooting line. It is about presenting. The meeting Record article does not repeat that pane. Zoom’s computer-recording article does not name it either. OBS’s capture pages do not name it. If a Mac asks an app for that permission, the switch the Apple article describes is the one this guide can cite. This guide did not open System Settings.

Screenshot lists a microphone, and one Apple article adds system audio for macOS 27 Golden Gate or later

The Mac User Guide article checked on 1 November 2026 is still the microphone page: Microphone or None, a .mov file, and a stop that says click in the menu bar. It does not print Include System Audio. The support article that prints Published Date: September 14, 2026 is the page that says Include System Audio, and it limits that choice to macOS 27 Golden Gate or later. It also says Record Selected Window is for macOS Tahoe 26 or later, and its stop control is the Stop button. QuickTime Player’s user guide opens Screenshot and does not add an audio sentence of its own. The 14 September article says QuickTime’s older Screen Recording window can choose a microphone, and that window’s list does not include Include System Audio. A reader whose Screenshot Options do not show Include System Audio is on the user-guide page’s list, not on a sentence this guide adds. The Mac sound guide, checked 19 October 2026, remains the general page for microphone versus internal audio. This page does not rewrite that date.

OBS is the page for one application’s audio on macOS 13 and later

The desktop audio guide is the page that names macOS Audio Capture in OBS Studio 30, on macOS 13 (Ventura) and higher, for all desktop audio or one application. The same page says the screen-capture source also carries audio, and that on OBS Studio 28 and 29 hiding the source removes the audio. Choosing Application Capture or Window Capture is how that page keeps the capture to one application or one window. The screen-capture page is the page that says audio starts at macOS 13, and that macOS 12.3-12.6 is without audio. Older than that, the desktop audio guide says you need additional software and names three products. It does not say those products record a Zoom or Teams meeting, and it does not say they notify participants. The separate track guide is still the page for putting a microphone and desktop audio on different recording tracks. This guide did not install OBS Studio.

Scope of this guide

We read the linked Zoom, Microsoft, Apple, and OBS pages on 1 November 2026 and wrote this guide from them. We did not install Zoom, Teams, or OBS Studio, did not open Screenshot or QuickTime Player, and did not join a meeting or save a recording. Nothing here is a hands-on recording or a tested catalog match. Menus can differ by app version and macOS version. Check what your own screen shows. This guide is not a legal opinion about consent where you are. “Internal audio” here means the Mac’s own sound, the phrase on the existing Mac sound guide. The Apple article checked today says “system audio.” The OBS pages say “desktop audio” or one application’s audio. A page that does not name Zoom or Teams is not a sentence about those apps. The Apple pages checked do not display a price and do not say free.

Common questions

Does Zoom’s own recording save the meeting audio on a Mac?

The computer-recording article, checked 1 November 2026, says computer recording records meeting video and audio locally, for a Basic (Free) account or above, in the Zoom desktop app for macOS as well as Windows and Linux. The host clicks Record, then Record on this Computer if a menu appears. Participants see an indicator in the top-left corner. The find-recordings article says the default Mac folder is /Users/[Username]/Documents/Zoom, and that the Zoom mobile app does not support computer recording. Cloud recording is the paid article: hosts and co-hosts, Record to the cloud, and video, audio, and chat text in the Zoom cloud. These pages do not say the recording includes other Mac apps. This guide did not save a file.

Do Teams meeting and call recordings notify the other people?

The meeting article says everyone is notified automatically, and that all participants receive a notification in the Teams desktop, web, or mobile app. It says that, depending on your region, you may need everyone’s permission, and it points to the Microsoft Privacy Statement without naming a country. The call article says everyone sees a notice and a banner. If an admin requires agreement for a one-to-one call, the other person is muted, with camera and sharing off, until they agree, and the article says recording continues if they do not agree. Those sentences are about Teams’ own recording. They do not name Screenshot or OBS Studio.

Does a Mac screen recording of the meeting start Zoom’s or Teams’ notice?

The Zoom indicator, the Zoom consent disclaimer, and the Teams notification and banner are printed on the Zoom and Teams recording articles. Those articles do not name Screenshot, QuickTime Player, or OBS Studio. The Apple and OBS pages checked on 1 November 2026 do not say they start a Zoom or Teams notice. This guide does not add a notice those pages do not print, and it did not join a meeting to watch for one.

Can Screenshot or QuickTime record the Mac’s system audio?

The Mac User Guide Screenshot article lists a microphone, or None, and does not print Include System Audio. The Apple article that prints Published Date: September 14, 2026 says to choose Include System Audio to record system audio with the screen recording in macOS 27 Golden Gate or later. QuickTime’s user-guide page opens Screenshot and does not print its own audio sentence. On the 14 September article, QuickTime’s own Screen Recording window lists a microphone and does not say Include System Audio. The user guide’s stop sentence is click in the menu bar. The 14 September article’s stop sentence is the Stop button. Neither page names Zoom or Teams, and neither displays a price.

Where does macOS let an app record the screen and system audio?

Apple’s permission article says to open Apple menu, System Settings, Privacy & Security, then Screen & System Audio Recording, and to turn recording on or off for each app. It says you can allow both screen and audio, or just audio. The menu bar article says a purple dot indicates the system audio is being recorded. Teams’ present-from-a-Mac section tells you to turn on the Microsoft Teams toggle in that pane before you share your screen. That section is not the meeting Record article. The OBS capture pages do not name this pane.

Can OBS capture one meeting app’s audio on a Mac?

The OBS desktop audio guide, dated 2022-04-19, says OBS Studio 30 on macOS 13 (Ventura) and higher can capture all desktop audio or one application, and that Application Capture or Window Capture selects one application or window. The screen-capture page, dated 2023-01-22, says audio is available on macOS 13 and higher and not on macOS 12.3-12.6. Those pages do not name Zoom or Teams, and they do not say the capture notifies participants. This guide did not install OBS Studio.
