What to verify

  • Check both visible and hidden markers in the same fixture.
  • The published PDF24 Online result is Browser-only and does not certify other files or editions.
  • A metadata finding must stay visible even when page text is removed.

CHECK THE FILE, NOT JUST THE BLACK BOX

PDF24 redaction: what the saved file actually shows

A covered word is not enough evidence. Check the saved page content and the document’s other information separately. Our example removed the fixture’s target text, but retained metadata and lost searchable page text.

Original software run: 12 September 2026, PDF24 Online, Browser. Saved-file reinspection: 23 September 2026. This reinspection is not a new software run or a claim about the current vendor build. Check the edition record and any current evidence holds before choosing a tool.

CheckSaved resultMeaning and limit
Visible and hidden test textNeither marker appeared in the saved output extraction.Pass for these two markers in this fixture, not every possible document.
Searchable page textThe saved page is rasterized; text extraction returns no page text.Even non-redacted text lost searchability. Check accessibility and downstream needs.
Document metadataThe title and author fields remain in the saved PDF.Page redaction did not sanitize this document’s metadata.
Other editions and filesThis was PDF24 Online in a Browser, with a vendor build number not exposed. No Windows Creator, offline, arbitrary-file or current-version pass is established.
Actual saved one-page PDF24 Online test output: the synthetic marker area is covered in black. This image alone cannot establish text or metadata removal.
Real saved output, not a generated illustration or software UI screenshot. Original synthetic fixture and evidence belong to WhatsNew2Day. The image is only the visual part of the check; inspect the PDF and record below.

Check a redacted PDF before sharing it

Use these six checks with a non-sensitive sample. They can expose common failures, but are not a security certification or a substitute for a qualified review of sensitive documents.

  1. Keep your original private and unchanged. Practise on the linked synthetic fixture, not an identity document or customer file. Record the exact app, edition, version, operating system and date.
  2. Use the application’s actual redaction workflow and apply/save the result. Merely placing an annotation over text does not establish removal. Cover both the visible marker and the known white-on-white marker area in our fixture.
  3. Close the editor and open the newly saved output in a different viewer. Search for both test markers and try selecting and copying the marked areas into a local text editor. Finding a marker is a failure; finding none is only one check.
  4. Inspect every page visually, including page edges and missed fragments. Extract text locally where possible and check it separately. An empty extraction result does not prove that images or other PDF objects contain no sensitive information.
  5. Inspect document properties, comments, attachments, form values, layers and previous revisions where supported. Use the tool’s documented sanitization process when needed, then repeat checks on the final saved file.
  6. Check what was lost: searchable text, form interaction, signatures and accessibility may matter. Verify the output in the recipient’s workflow before sharing. Stop and seek a qualified review if the file is sensitive and you cannot assess its remaining content.

Does PDF24 redaction remove metadata?

Not in our saved test output: its title and author fields remained. Do not assume that a page-content result proves metadata sanitization.

Why did the text stop being searchable?

Our saved output contains a rasterized page rather than the original text layer. PDF24’s current documentation also describes rasterizing affected pages. That tradeoff needs a separate check if your workflow depends on search or accessible text.

Is this a private, offline test?

No. The original application run used PDF24 Online. Its official page describes server-side processing. Do not upload sensitive material unless its handling meets your requirements; this result does not test PDF24 Creator for Windows or any offline workflow.

Official documentation checked 23 September 2026: PDF24 Online redaction; Adobe Acrobat Pro’s apply-and-sanitize workflow. These are documentation checks, not new application tests.
