Nadine Coyle broke down in tears as she paid tribute to her late Girls Aloud bandmate Sarah Harding at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool on Sunday.

The 39-year-old singer was comforted by her bandmates Cheryl, Kimberley Walsh and Nicola Roberts as the band paid a heartbreaking tribute to their friend during the final show.

Nadine was left in tears as Girls Aloud sang a previously unreleased version of I’ll Stand By You alongside Sarah.

Sarah, who tragically passed away from breast cancer in 2021, sang the song solo and the band and audience joined in as a video of her played.

Nadine was seen wiping away tears as emotions took over before Cheryl, Kimberley and Nicola came together to complete the song.

Elsewhere during their final show, the girls paused their performance to allow Cheryl to respond to a viral video of herself.

The sensation of singing She used the performance – which took place on her 41st birthday – to reference an old video of her talking about one of her biggest hits, Love Machine, which was released in 2004.

In the retrospective clip from her 2006 E4 documentary Off the Record, Cheryl seemed adamant she would not take part in a reunion.

She said: “Can you imagine a 30-year-old woman saying ‘I’m a love machine’? No, no, thank you.”

But when she was in Liverpool, she took the opportunity on stage to respond to the viral clip that began circulating again once her reunion tour was announced.

She said: ‘I’d like to clarify something, you may have seen a video of me circulating saying I would never sing Love Machine when I was 30.

-Okay, but if we go there, on the last tour I was 29 years old, today I am 41!

The crowd erupted in cheers as the girl band performed the upbeat song.

Nicola had previously responded to a fan who shared their excitement when the reunion tour was announced, again referencing Love Machine.

The fan commented on Nicola’s Instagram post about the reunion, saying: ‘I didn’t expect to be going back to my fan life at 31… but I’m SO here for it.’

Nicola replied: ‘I don’t think Chez expected to sing Love Machine after 30, but he’s here for it!’

Later in the show, Nicola, 38, addressed her hometown, saying it was “an honour to be spending the last night of the tour with Scousers”.

“I’ve been waiting this whole tour to finally come back to this city.”

This comes after Girls Aloud appeared “stronger than ever” when they performed their final London show on Thursday last week, despite having to resort to selling cheap tickets.

The group was forced to cut prices by up to 60 per cent after failing to sell out their three-night run at the O2 Arena.

However, despite the last-minute cuts, Nadine, 40, Kimberley, 42, Nicola and Cheryl looked in their element as they took to the stage in front of the packed stadium.

The tour, the seventh in total and the first without the late Sarah Harding, began in Dublin in May and ended in Liverpool on Sunday night.

The group looked so confident on stage that one body language expert declared they are now “stronger than ever.”
