Harry Garside admitted this week that he feels incredibly anxious about his 85-day self-imposed vow of chastity, made so he can focus on the Paris 2024 Olympics.
The professional boxer, 26, told Fox FM Fifi, Fev and Nick he had some reservations about whether he made the vow for the right reasons.
“I’m very nervous, 85 days is a long time, but you have to do what you have to do if you want that gold medal,” he began.
‘I don’t know if I do it for good reasons or if I have problems. I think about both a bit to be completely honest.’
The Melbourne-born boxer successfully completed a similar challenge while competing at the Tokyo Olympics in 2020, to get himself in the right headspace.

“We all have desires and things we want to do, including what we’re talking about, but if we can refrain from the things we want to do, the stronger I feel mentally,” she said at the time.
“I think it helps my mental performance, which I think is the most important thing.”
Last month, the boxer announced on Instagram that he would refrain from “shooting his shot” until he fights to win Australia’s first Olympic boxing gold medal in July.
“Tomorrow is the day I stop shooting, if you know what I’m saying, until after the Olympics,” the athlete wrote, adding a water splash emoji.

“I did it since the beginning of June 2021 and got bronze, so I need to do more to win,” he added, referring to his bronze medal in boxing at the Tokyo Olympics.
His post was accompanied by a photo of the lightweight champion looking at the camera in his car with a determined expression on his face.
Harry’s announcement came days after he spoke to The Project about his plans for the Australian boxing team to take home four Olympic gold medals this year.
‘We are going to win several, I will be one of them. We are going to win a lot, I call it four medals,’ he began.
“I think we have a great opportunity and, heading into the 2032 Brisbane Olympics, hopefully we can inspire some people!”
After winning bronze at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, Garside has made no secret that he will be seeking Australia’s first Olympic gold medal in boxing, competing in the sport’s lightweight division.
