An Alabama woman has gone viral after sharing a heartbreaking story about her “shortest first date” and why it left her “mortified.”
Maggie Smith32, has been sharing her dating chronicles on TikTok for the past few months, after she left her previous “toxic” relationship.
But in a new viral videoSmith spoke vulnerably about a recent date she went on, which ended up lasting only a few minutes.
She started the clip feeling hopeful with a pretty purple bow in her hair, as she said she had put on makeup just for the date, joking that it “better turn out well.”
Plot twist: It didn’t go well, Smith admitted.

“The truth is that it lasted less than two minutes,” he explained in the viral video, which has reached more than six million views since it was published last week.
“I approached him, he gave me a hug and said, ‘Are you hungry? “Let’s go in,” she explained, seeming upset by the incident.
“We walked in and he said, ‘Actually, can you come out for a minute?’ And I walked outside and he said, ‘I’m not trying to offend you, but I’m just not sorry.’
After that, Smith said he returned to his car and drove home.
“Dating when you’re fat sucks,” she concluded in the clip.
In a recent interview with PeopleSmith admitted she felt “mortified” at the time, especially since her date said he had rejected her because of her weight.
“He took me outside in front of a group of people to say it and my mind went blank,” he told the outlet. “I just said ‘okay’ and started walking towards my car in shock.”
“As I was walking away, he felt the need to say, ‘I’m sorry, it’s your weight.’ I didn’t ask because I didn’t care. I didn’t know him. I wasn’t heartbroken, just embarrassed,” she continued.

However, after sharing her story, Smith received a flood of comments from TikTok users who could relate to her story and left encouraging messages.
‘If you can’t sit down and have a conversation. Take the time to really get to know yourself. And see you. Honey, he’s not for you. He lost a lot. You are beautiful,’ one person wrote.
Another agreed: ‘Dating is very difficult. But you looked so beautiful. Some men are not worthy of you.
‘The first thing I literally thought was: wow, she is beautiful and her makeup is fire! So the story crushed me because it made you feel less than, but honey, he’s the problem, not you!’ someone else wrote.
Others even commented with their own theories as to why the date ended.
“Looks like he saw someone at the restaurant who knows him and his wife,” one user wrote.
One TikToker agreed: ‘A guy here (an old one)! It’s not you… he saw someone. Probably a friend of his wife. You dodged a bullet!’
Since going viral, Smith told People that she was “shocked by the vulnerable messages” she’s received from those who are also struggling in the dating world.

“Preferences are reasonable, but I think there is a way to treat others with dignity,” he explained to the outlet.
He explained that he didn’t feel like his date was trying to be “rude,” but he felt bad at the moment.
Smith added that he doesn’t regret not saying anything to his date, explaining that he feels like he had “wasted enough time” at the time.
Now, the 32-year-old is forging her own path and continuing to date, detailing to the outlet that she’s looking for someone who is “kind, honest and thoughtful.”
“Ultimately, I’ve spent this year falling in love with myself again, and if someone isn’t capable of loving me the way I love myself, that’s a pass,” she shared.
