A woman was rushed to hospital after being attacked by a shark in waters off the coast of Queensland.

The woman was on a boat about 10 hours off the coast of Mackay when she was bitten on the leg at 4.30pm on Wednesday.

The woman was rescued by HMAS Warramunga after navy personnel were alerted to her injuries following an emergency call.

The woman was treated on the ship before arriving at the port of Mackay, where she was rushed to Mackay Base Hospital in a stable condition.

During the attack he received several lacerations to his lower leg.

It comes five years after a British tourist had his foot bitten and a second man suffered serious leg lacerations during a shark attack in the region.

The men had been struggling in the water during a day trip in the Whitsundays, a popular tourist destination, when the shark attacked.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted the Queensland Ambulance Service for comment.
