Embittered Queensland football ‘fans’ have come under fire online after Origin captain Daly Cherry-Evans was subjected to a chorus of boos following the match at Suncorp Stadium on Wednesday night.
Cherry-Evans, 35, was gracious in defeat, congratulating New South Wales on winning the series on enemy soil, before urging Michael Maguire’s men to “enjoy” the victory.
Inexplicably, moments earlier, as the veteran scrum-half made his way to the presentation stage, he was booed in parts of the crowd.
It wasn’t long before supporters were condemning the behavior of a select few on social media.
“Did the Suncorp crowd just boo DCE? I’m not a DCE fan, but that’s rude,” one person posted.
Another wrote: ‘DCE was booed at Suncorp in a maroon shirt. I thought the Qlders had ‘bought’ Origin, they all left with 10 minutes to go.’
A third commented: “DCE was booed loudly at Suncorp Stadium. Never thought I’d hear that.”
“The people of Queensland should have stayed and supported their team. They are cowards for pulling out.”

New South Wales star Jarome Luai taunted departing Queensland fans at Suncorp Stadium on Wednesday once the result was secured.
Luai later posed outside Brisbane’s famous Caxton pub following New South Wales’ Game 3 victory.
Meanwhile, Blues five-eighth Jarome Luai, a polarising figure in the eyes of many, was at his best once the 14-4 result had been secured.
As dejected Maroons fans hurried towards the exit, Luai was seen waving goodbye to the hordes of supporters.
He later posted a picture of himself outside the iconic Caxton Hotel in Brisbane with the cheeky caption “goodnight”.
Luai’s incredible individual performance capped a remarkable turnaround in Origin, having been sent off in the second game last year following an on-field brawl with Queensland fullback Reece Walsh.
She received death threats after that incident and recently stated that she still bears the scars to this day.
“It’s kind of a scar, more than thinking about the game itself,” Luai said ahead of the decider in Brisbane.
“But I come to the conclusion that at the end of the day your scars can also make you stronger.”
