Kate Beckinsale’s recent weight loss has alarmed fans and now the Hollywood star has spoken out about the “tough” time she’s going through.
The actress, 50, spent weeks in hospital with a stress-related tear in her oesophagus after her stepfather, Roy Battersby, died and her mother, Judy Loe, developed cancer.
“I think people go through things in life and we all face difficulties, and I’ve been pretty transparent about mine,” she tells me at Gala One’s Summer Gala at the Golf Club Saint-Tropez.
‘I’ve been taking care of my mother mainly and she’s fine.’
Kate, the daughter of late Porridge star Richard Beckinsale, was left disappointed that some guests spoke over her as she tried to discuss the charity’s initiatives.
She shouted, “Since none of you are listening, I might as well talk to myself.”

Kate has caused concern on social media for several unexplained health issues over the past year, including spending weeks in the hospital and losing so many pounds that fans called her “too skinny.”
Earlier this month, she revealed her weight loss is due to “stress and grief” over the death of her stepfather and her mother’s cancer diagnosis while responding to trolls.
The actress slammed some of her “moron” followers who told her she needed to gain weight in the comments section of an Instagram post.
After sharing a video clip of herself wearing a crop top and bikini bottoms, one follower asked where her bum had gone and encouraged Kate to “do some squats.”
Another claimed her body had “shrunken”, while another insisted she “looked upset” in the video posted on Monday night.
However, Kate hit back at the cruel comments, explaining that there were several reasons for her changing figure, including a six-week stay in hospital.
She replied: ‘No, actually, I watched my stepfather die in a pretty shocking way, my mother has stage 4 cancer and I lost a lot of eight years to the stress and grief…
‘Pretty quickly and then I was in hospital for six weeks because the pain had made a hole in my oesophagus, which made me vomit large amounts of blood, and I found it very difficult to eat…
‘And I worked very, very hard on a film that was actually quite provocative because it also involved the subject of my father’s death, so I’m not really worried about what people think of my ass.
‘Maybe you should worry about your own ass. I suggest you stick something in it, like a big pineapple or a brick.’

Kate’s stepfather, Roy Battersby, died in January after suffering “a massive stroke” while battling two forms of cancer, which he had been diagnosed with the previous summer.
Shortly after her death, Kate also revealed that her mother, Judy Loe, had also been told she had stage four cancer.
In recent months, Kate had been caring for her mother and late stepfather after flying them from the UK to stay with her in Los Angeles.
