Former Tottenham Hotspur striker Peter Crouch believes there are very few midfielders better than Yves Bissouma when he is fully fit.

Bissouma made his 60th career appearance for Spurs on Thursday night when he started in a UEFA Europa League match against Qarabag.

This was Bissouma’s fourth outing of the season, despite manager Ange Postecoglou suspending him for Tottenham’s opening game of the campaign after footage emerged of the 28-year-old inhaling nitrous oxide in August.

Bissouma made amends upon his return from that club’s suspension by scoring his first goal for Spurs in a 4-0 win over Everton.

He also made an impressive cameo in last weekend’s 3-1 win over Brentford.

Bissouma was the subject of a pre-match discussion about TNT Sports before Thursday’s game.

When asked by presenter Lynsey Hipgrave how good Bissouma could be for Spurs in the long term, Crouch replied: “It’s just consistency. “I’ve seen games where I think he’s one of the best midfielders in the Premier League.

“I think he has a lot of skill and he has players around him who can catch the ball.” I think it can do a little bit of everything.

“He’s fantastic as a defensive midfielder, but I think he has a bit more to him than that. He can play too. He can pass people. He can choose to pass out.

“He is a versatile midfielder and I think he is someone who, if he regains the trust of his coach and wins the trust of the fans, will be a pillar for a long time at this club.”

Another former Spurs star, Glenn Hoddle, added: “When I saw him at Brighton I thought he was exceptional. “That player is still there at the moment.

“He hasn’t fully shown it yet at Tottenham. He’s done some really good things, but he’s also done some dumb things where I’m like, “You’ve got to be more responsible in that position.”

“But as a midfielder he has a bit of absolutely everything.”
