Pete Davidson’s “unpredictable” behavior and his distress over his split from Madelyn Cline led him to check into rehab, a source said.
Last month it was revealed that the 30-year-old comedian had checked into a wellness facility seeking treatment for his mental health, just days after admitting to fans that he had stopped using drugs.
Davidson split from Cline, 26, the same month after almost a year of dating. A source who saw Pete days before rehab exclusively told DailyMail.com: “Pete is miserable most of the time.”
The only time Pete is “truly happy” is when he’s working and performing on stage, the source alleged.
Aside from her Prehab tour, which was set to run until mid-October but is now canceled, the star didn’t have many film or TV projects lined up.

Four of his upcoming projects have just been completed or are in post-production.
The source explained: “Pete doesn’t have stability in his life right now. He does better when he has everything under control and things are stable.
“For the first time in his career, things are unpredictable and that’s what’s caused him so much stress. There’s a lot of pressure that comes with uncertainty and that stress can lead to bad thoughts.”
The source claimed that although he unexpectedly cancelled the rest of his comedy tour dates (disappointing fans and losing money), the star had to prioritize his mental health.
The source said: ‘He has to be in the right frame of mind to get on stage and perform in front of thousands of people.
‘He kind of pretends to be someone important on stage because it’s his happy place, so sometimes people don’t even know what he’s seriously going through because he’s joking about his life and laughing with his fans.’
Pete is receiving the most support from his family and friends following his split from Outer Banks star Cline.
The source said: “Some of his closest friends didn’t even know he had returned for treatment until they read about it on the news.”

Last month, Pete admitted he still smokes weed after quitting cocaine and ketamine, and posed with him at a marijuana dispensary over the weekend (pictured above).
“Whatever happens, they wish him the best and know he will recover after receiving the help he needs,” a source said.
Months ago, his friends supposedly gave him a “wake-up call” about his spending habits.
“He was squandering his money and his friends gave him a warning. He was spending thousands of dollars on trips and private jets,” the source said.

Days before checking into a wellness center this summer, Pete revealed that he still smokes marijuana, after admitting to using other drugs in the past.
During his stand-up comedy show on July 20 at the Ocean Casino Resort in Atlantic City, he told the audience: “I still can’t quit (marijuana). It’s all I have left. I did cocaine and ketamine and all the pills and all that shit. All I have left is marijuana, so I’m almost done, but I’ll hold on a little longer.”
He also detailed his near-death experience when he “crashed into a garage” in Los Angeles in March 2023, which resulted in him being charged with reckless driving.
The misdemeanor charge was dismissed on July 18, 2024, after completing 50 hours of community service with a neurosurgeon, a safe driving course and a visit to a morgue.
According to an eyewitness who spoke exclusively to DailyMail.com, Pete told the crowd gathered at Ocean Casino’s Ovation Hall that he received a call to inform him the charges had been dropped and replied: “Hooray? I guess I did something wrong. It’s nothing to celebrate.”
The source said: “He has to be in the right mindset to get up on stage and perform in front of thousands of people. He’s kind of impassive on stage because it’s his happy place, so sometimes people don’t even know what he’s seriously going through,” he was pictured at his show in January.
Despite the court-ordered terms, Pete said he was “having a good year” and feels “very grateful” for his life.
Pete announced that he would be leaving Saturday Night Live in 2022 after being a part of the late-night sketch comedy show for eight years. Last year, he executive produced and starred in Bupkis, a Peacock original show, but then decided to leave after one season.
“I’ve always seen Bupkis as a window into my life as it’s so personal and about my struggles and my family,” The King of Staten Island star shared at the time.
“After almost a decade of my personal life in the media, I wanted a chance to tell my story my way. Of all the work I’ve done, Bupkis is, without a doubt, the one I’m most proud of.”
He continued: “I feel like this part of my life is over. I’m so excited for this next chapter and for you guys to see my work. Thank you to everyone who supports me, I’m forever grateful.”

The rehab stint comes after Davidson completed more than 200 live stand-up comedy shows across the country.
He previously entered a rehabilitation facility in July 2023 for treatment related to his diagnoses of PTSD and borderline personality disorder.
