Fast bowling sensation Mayank Yadav came off his second consecutive match-winning spell on Tuesday and he will be hoping his stellar start in the IPL leads to an India cap. With back-to-back player of the match performances in his debut season, the 21-year-old has emerged as the find of the season. However, IPL is just a means to an end for Mayank.
“Feeling very good, two Player of the Match awards in two games. I’m happier that we won both games. My goal is to play for the country. I think this is just the beginning. I have it most enjoyed Cameron Green’s wicket, Mayank said after LSG’s win over RCB.
His three wickets included Green, Glenn Maxwell and Rajat Patidar. Mayank had missed the last season due to injury and he fully knows the importance of fitness.
“There are many factors in bowling fast: nutrition, sleep, training. I focus a lot on my diet and recovery – an ice bath,” he said.
LSG skipper KL Rahul couldn’t be more pleased for a cricketer who has shown great temperament to complement his thunderous pace.
After rattling Punjab Kings batters with pace on his IPL debut, the 21-year-old dished out similar treatment to RCB batters and finished with a second successive three-wicket haul.
Rahul struggles to keep Mayank with him, but he doesn’t complain.
“One ball hit me very hard, I am so happy to see Mayank bowling the way he has bowled. He has waited patiently for a year, he works very hard, he is really professional and has a great temperament,” Rahul said during the post-match presentation. RCB skipper Faf du Plessis also gave credit to Mayank.
“It’s the new action that you haven’t experienced before, and when they have speed you need time to get used to it. But his ability to control length and have accuracy is impressive.
“You need two guys to push through and create a partnership, which we couldn’t do. We need the strong characters in the dressing room to put their hands up,” du Plessis said after RCB’s third defeat in four games .
