New Delhi:

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has identified Mussavir Hussain Shazib as the main suspect who carried out the March 1 blast at a cafe in Bengaluru and Abdul Matheen Taahaa as a co-conspirator.

As part of efforts to locate and arrest the suspects on the run, the NIA has conducted searches at 18 locations in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh, an NIA spokesperson said.

In the Rameshwaram Cafe blast case, the NIA has identified the accused who carried out the IED blast as Mussavir Hussain Shazib and the co-conspirator as Abdul Matheen Taahaa, both residents of Thirthahalli in Shivamogga district of Karnataka.

Several people were injured in the explosion at the cafe on ITPL Road, Brookefield, Bengaluru.

Further, Muzammil Shareef, a resident of Khalsa, Chikkamagaluru, who provided logistical support to the main suspects, was arrested on March 26 and is under investigation in police custody, the spokesperson said.

The agency had paid rewards of Rs 10 lakh based on information leading to the arrest of each person on the run on March 29.

The NIA has summoned and investigated all acquaintances, including college and school friends, of the suspects who are on the run and those who have been arrested to collect evidence and information in the case, the spokesperson said.

Since this is a terrorist incident, any information about the identities of the witnesses could endanger them and furthermore hinder the investigation. Unverified news reports are also hampering effective investigation into the case, the agency said.

The NIA has sought the cooperation of all for the arrest of the suspects who are on the run, the spokesperson said.
