Sydney’s main central station has been evacuated following what police believe was a false threat made by an anonymous caller.

The call was received on Monday afternoon around 2:20 p.m., prompting authorities to evacuate passengers from platforms 24 and 25 of the metro traveling on the T4 Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra line.

Agents from the Police Transportation Command began to investigate, but after a search of the area they found nothing.

The incident was quickly controlled and the trains returned to running as scheduled at 3:30 p.m.

New South Wales Police have confirmed there is no current threat to the public, however investigations continue.

Transport for NSW has advised passengers to allow additional travel time, however it understands the issue needs to be resolved before rush hour.
