Sydney’s M5 East is closed heading into the city after a car burst into flames, causing rush-hour traffic chaos.
Emergency services were called to the M5 near Bexley Road shortly after 7.20am on Monday following reports a car was on fire in the tunnel.
Firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze as the vehicle was completely engulfed in flames.
Drivers have been advised to use the Bexley Road exit and follow diversion route D5.
Motorists can also exit at King Georges Road and follow the D5 detour route via Stoney Creek Road, Bexley Road and Forest Road.
The incident has caused heavy traffic and drivers are urged to allow extra time for travel.
