in a sincere interview with the BBC During their engagement announcement in 2010, Prince William spoke about why he gave Kate Middleton time to think carefully about her decision to join the Royal Family. The Prince of Wales explained that he wanted to make sure Kate and her family had the opportunity to fully understand the realities of royal life before getting engaged.
“I really want to make sure that she and her family have the best guidance and the best opportunity to see what life has been like (or what life is like) in the family.” William said. “That’s why I’ve been waiting so long because I wanted to give him a chance to see and back off if necessary.”
Reflecting on the journey of their relationship, William added: “We met each other as such and were different characters. It was very much about trying to find our own path and grow. “It was just a little bit of space and stuff like that, and it worked out for the better.”
During the interview, Kate Middleton also shared her perspective on their brief breakup before they finally announced their engagement. She acknowledged that while the separation was difficult at the time, it made her a stronger person in the end.
“I don’t think I was very happy about it at the time, but it actually made me a stronger person,” Kate admitted. “You discover things about yourself that you may not have realized. “I think a relationship can be quite consuming when you’re younger, and I really valued that time for myself too, although I didn’t think about it at the time, looking back.”
Their reflections reveal how both William and Kate navigated the complexities of their relationship, ultimately leading to a deeper understanding of each other and the responsibilities that come with royal life.
