Friends of England defender Kieran Trippier are furious at his wife Charlotte's decision to share a cryptic message on Instagram just before the Lions faced Slovenia, the Mail can reveal.

England’s performance in this tournament may have been mediocre so far, but off the field there’s plenty of drama – thanks to the Wags.

As the team prepared to face Slovenia in what turned out to be a dull draw on Tuesday night, Charlotte Trippier, wife of Newcastle star Kieran, posted a cryptic message on Instagram.

She wrote: ‘Sooner or later you get over the shit you swore you would never get over and it’s the best feeling in the world.’

And now the Mail can reveal that friends of the 33-year-old defender are furious at his decision to share the post, particularly as it was the day of an England match where the team was going to be put under so much scrutiny.

While she quickly deleted the post, it also caused fans to look and discover that she was no longer following her husband on the social media platform.

While it is not categorically known that the post was addressed to Trippier, it is believed that he recognized it.

One of them said: “What the hell was Charlotte playing at? Why would she do that? She may not be in Germany, but she knows full well the ramifications of her position.”

“They have always been a private couple, so doing this on such an important day, when England are the subject of so much criticism for their way of playing, seems like a bad idea.”

While people close to the player say his wife’s outburst hasn’t affected his game, a friend added: “It’s far from ideal, there was absolutely no need to post their marriage in the public domain like this.”

Mrs Trippier later told her followers she was going to school with her eight-year-old son and five-year-old daughter.

The couple also have a third child, born in 2022. Neither has flown to Germany to watch their father play, unlike many of the children of other players.

In previous years, Mrs Trippier has cheered her husband on from the stands and the couple also regularly went on holiday with Harry Kane and his wife Kate.

The two couples are believed to have become close when Trippier and Kane were playing for Tottenham.

The Trippiers married in a lavish ceremony in Cyprus in 2016, the same year their son was born.

Last year, Mrs Tripper spoke of her “hidden” struggle during the player’s time in Madrid in the Prime Video documentary series We Are Newcastle United. She candidly admitted that her husband’s move to La Liga side Atlético Madrid in 2019 left her “lonely” and “depressed.”

The Trippier saga came after it was revealed that Kyle Walker’s wife Annie Kilner was furious that the Manchester City star’s former lover Lauryn Goodman was going to Germany to watch England take on Denmark with her son .

Kilner’s publicist has repeatedly reported his displeasure with Goodman’s decision to take four-year-old Kairo to watch his father play.

Mrs Kilner, a mother of four, was also notably absent from Cologne to watch her husband play on Tuesday night.
