Sofyan Amrabat’s ties with Manchester United appear to have finally been severed with his removal from the club’s website.
The 27-year-old also removed the Red Devils from his social media bio following the end of his loan spell last season.
This development comes after it was revealed earlier this month that the Moroccan remained one of the midfielders listed in the club’s ‘players’ section on their website.
Amrabat spent last season on loan at Old Trafford from Serie A club Fiorentina and, despite a largely disappointing spell, played 90 minutes in Erik ten Hag’s side’s shock FA Cup final win over Manchester City.
In total, the midfielder played 30 times for United last season, including 21 Premier League appearances.
Sofyan Amrabat played every minute in the FA Cup final for Manchester United when they beat Manchester City last season.
Erik ten Hag’s side have spent more than £8m on a season-long loan deal for the Moroccan midfielder.
As well as his removal from the club’s website, Amrabat also took a swipe at Man United on his Instagram bio.
The apparent managerial oversight sparked some speculation among fans that Amrabat would return to the club on a permanent basis this summer.
There were reports that new sporting director Dan Ashworth had drawn up a five-man shortlist that included Amrabat as well as Monaco’s Youssouf Fofana, Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi and Palmeiras’ Richard Rios.
Ten Hag’s side spent £8.5m to secure his services from Fiorentina on a 12-month deal but have yet to decide whether to activate their £21.4m purchase option.
Fiorentina sporting director Daniele Prade also said in June that the Moroccan international wants to remain in England next season.
“I would like him to stay in Florence, but it doesn’t seem like that’s what he has in mind,” he said. “I think he wants to stay in the Premier League, but we haven’t heard from anyone since.”
A return to the north-west now looks unlikely with just one day to go before the start of the new top-flight campaign and just over two weeks to go before the window closes.

United are still active in the market, however. On Wednesday, they completed the double signing of defensive duo Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui from Bayern Munich.
Having signed for a combined fee of £60m, the pair have reunited with their former Ajax boss at United.
