A family has revealed their “lives have been shattered” after a rising football star was identified as the 18-year-old who lost his life in a car crash in Perth on Saturday night.

Nick Campo, 18, a South Fremantle Football Club player, was sitting in the back of a Toyota Hilux pickup truck when it crashed and overturned at about 11.40pm on Farrington Road in North Lake.

The pickup truck then crashed into a black Jeep Patriot SUV traveling in the opposite direction.

Tyler Rowe and Josh Jackson, two of Campo’s teammates, were in the truck and were taken to the hospital, but Campo has since died.

The driver, a 17-year-old boy, was also taken to the hospital, while the driver of the Jeep, a 26-year-old man, and the passenger, a 27-year-old woman, suffered minor injuries.

South Fremantle chief executive Cameron Britt said the club was in “deep shock” following the tragedy.

‘We are a club in deep shock, focused on supporting our players, staff and their families in these tragic circumstances.
