Eamonn Holmes has revealed he “can no longer walk or look after himself” in a candid new video.

Following back surgery in 2022 for a herniated disc, the 64-year-old GB News presenter has been unable to walk unaided and often relies on a wheelchair.

Eamonn took to Instagram on Tuesday alongside S Club 7’s Jo O’Meara, who reached out to him after learning of his spinal problems two years ago, having suffered the same crippling pain.

The former This Morning presenter emotionally revealed he can no longer look after himself, amid his new relationship with Katie Alexander, 42.

The Mail newspaper reported this week that his ex-wife Ruth Langsford, 64, has removed the stair lift from their £3.5m Surrey home. The couple announced their separation earlier this year after 14 years of marriage.

Ruth installed the stair lift in January 2023 to help him get to bed as he battled chronic back pain caused by herniated discs and a dislocated pelvis. He had undergone surgery four months earlier but still needed help around the house.

Shortly after, family friend and TV presenter Rylan Clark visited the now-estranged couple’s home and posted a video of himself walking up the stairs.

In the emotional video, Eamonn admitted that his days of independence were over as he pleaded with his followers to adopt a dog while petting Bella.

Eamonn, who used to share a rescue dog, Maggie, with his ex-wife Ruth, also revealed that losing his ability to walk also had an impact.

He captioned the clip: ‘Think about giving Bella a home. If I could walk and take care of myself she would be mine, but instead you could be me.

‘Talk to @TheK9Angels. He’s an absolutely adorable little dog.’

Her candid admission was met with support from her followers as her fans flocked to her comment box.

One wrote: “Oh she’s lovely. I hope you get stronger and can have another dog. Cheryl.”

“I hope you’re back walking and looking after yourself soon and that you can give one of these dogs a happy home once again. Sending you positive vibes, Eamonn.”

This comes after he revealed his “latest feat” to improve his mobility amid his gruelling health battle.

He posted a video of himself using an Alter G anti-gravity treadmill, which helps his “legs and body move like they did before” his injury.

The presenter is still recovering from surgery and a shoulder injury, which forced him to take four months off work at the end of last year.

Eamonn captioned his post: ‘Trying to remember what it felt like to have working legs.’

While filming himself on the machine, he said, “Hi. This is my latest feat. This is what’s called an anti-gravity treadmill. It’s an Alter G anti-gravity treadmill.

“And the reason it’s called antigravity is that you see down here… I’m being held up by a fairly large balloon.

“And the balloon is holding my weight. What the machine is really doing, if I’m walking or running with this now, is helping my legs and my body remember what it was like to move like this before things went wrong, which they’ve been wrong for a long time.

‘It gives me some freedom and the idea is to develop muscle memory and hopefully things will happen in the future.

‘For the moment, I’ll spend half an hour on this. Greetings!’

The Alter G treadmill inflates from the waist down, giving you a weightless feeling as you walk or run with just 20% of your body weight, making exercise much more comfortable.

Eamonn uses a wheelchair due to chronic back pain and also undergoes painful physiotherapy sessions.

In January, he said the “harsh reality” may be that he may never be able to walk unaided again.

In 2016, Eamonn underwent a three-and-a-quarter-hour double hip replacement operation after living with acute pain for many years.

Speaking about his operation at the time, Eamonn said: “Was I nervous? No! It was like being on TV. In the build-up I was stressed: can I do it? Can I handle it?”

Two years later, Eamonn detailed his battle with shingles and how he contracted the virus on his son Declan’s wedding day.

During an appearance on Loose Women in September 2021, he spoke about his health battle that left him unable to work on This Morning three years ago.

She also shared images of her face swollen and covered in marks and scabs during her battle.

Shingles is a skin rash caused by reactivation of the varicella zoster virus, the virus that causes chickenpox. In the UK, 90 per cent of adults have had chickenpox, so this virus remains dormant in their nervous system.

In September 2022, Eamonn was forced to step away from his GB news show due to undergoing vital back surgery to relieve his chronic back pain.

Following his surgery, he revealed that despite physical therapy, he still feels like his lack of mobility prevents him from doing simple things and he is forced to rely on others, which he described as “soul-destroying.”

The spinal surgery also left him with a weakened left leg and, just over two weeks after recovering from the operation, Eamonn fell backwards down 18 stairs at Surreyhome, hitting the stone floor at the bottom.

The terrible accident could have easily killed him, but he emerged with a broken shoulder and even weaker legs.

The former This Morning presenter admitted at the time that fracturing his shoulder in a fall was a “massive setback”.

The presenter and Ruth announced their plans to divorce last month after 14 years of marriage and 27 years together.

A year after his spinal surgery, Eamonn underwent a spine and neck lift procedure in September 2023 after admitting he was “unable to walk”.

Eamonn admitted he had “not recovered” from his back surgery, confessing: “I can’t run, I can’t walk, I can’t do anything except watch TV and eat.”

“Last year I had back problems and I haven’t recovered. It’s not good, it’s not a good recipe,” he explained.

Before their split, his ex-wife Ruth revealed she feared Eamonn “could never be 100 per cent right”.
