Donny van de Beek is expected to return to Manchester United later this summer and Eintracht Frankfurt are reportedly unwilling to activate a buy option clause in his contract.
It had been widely accepted that the 26-year-old, who joined Man United for £40million in 2020, needed to go out on loan to play first-team football, with the midfielder playing just 21 minutes off the bench at the start of the season. 2023-24.

After signing from Ajax in 2020, he subsequently made 62 appearances for the Red Devils, scoring two goals and two assists.
Amid his struggles for playing time, he was loaned out to Everton in 2022, where he would play seven times and score one goal, but suffered a thigh injury that ruled him out for much of the latter part of the season.
In the summer, several clubs, including his former team Ajax, had expressed interest in signing the disgraced Man United midfielder.
His contract at Old Trafford is due to expire in June 2025, and Ten Hag believes injuries were the main culprit for his problems this season.
“First of all, he’s had a lot of injuries,” Ten Hag said. “From the first moment I arrived here at Manchester United, he was not the player he was at Ajax because he was injured.
“Many times he was unavailable and then he struggled for a long time to recover from that injury. That’s probably the main reason why he didn’t play.
“We decided on a loan in the summer, but it didn’t happen and his opportunities are few because we also make appointments and agreements with players and hire players in that position. The competition was high.”

But he has struggled to revive his career in Frankfurt and has only participated seven times this season.
Frankfurt was recently eliminated from the Europa Conference League, after suffering a 3-4 loss to Union Saint-Gilloise in the playoffs.
They are currently on the verge of securing a place in European competition next season and are three points behind Augsburg in sixth place.
Despite that, coach Dino Toppmoller admitted he apologized to Van de Beek after he was left out of his Europa Conference League squad earlier this year.
“He’s only played a total of four games in the last two years, so it won’t happen overnight,” he said in January.
“But I have 100 percent confidence in his quality, he will definitely help us in the second half of the season.
“I told Donny I was sorry but also what I expected from him now.”
