Chappell Roan has revealed why he often wears a lot of white paint on his face.
During her Friday night stop in Manchester on her Midwest Princess tour, the 26-year-old singer, fresh off of performing at the VMAs, spoke candidly to her audience.
The Willard, Missouri native shared in a now viral video online video sharing‘In my hometown, people call homosexuals clowns. That’s why I paint my face white.’
She emphasized, ‘As a bitch, I’ll show you a clown.’
Roan, whose music career peaked this year, added: “This is what matters to me because I look at you and I see a community. I really needed this when I was 15. I needed it so bad. Just being in a room full of people that looked like me.”

This comes after she took to Instagram on Friday morning to share a behind-the-scenes look at her beauty preparations ahead of appearing at Wednesday’s MTV Video Music Awards.
In a message to her nearly five million followers, she wrote: “@vmas with @maccosmetics.”
Roan’s gothic-inspired red carpet look included hyper-thin brows, burgundy eyeshadow and gold mascara on her lower lashes.
Her lips were covered in a burnt red shade of matte lipstick.
He changed his appearance before going on stage to perform wearing medieval-style armor.
Makeup artist Andrew Dahling used several highly pigmented colors on her lids, including gold, blue, and magenta.
Chappell won a Moon Man Award for Best New Artist at the annual awards show.

But the night wasn’t without its gaffes, as the music artist responded to a red carpet photographer who yelled “shut the f*** up” at her as she turned around to adjust her outfit.
In footage of the incident, Chappell turned around and shouted: “Shut the f*** up!”
She added: “No! Not me, b***h!”, prompting a woman who witnessed the encounter to encourage her: “Tell him, girl!”
