The Before He Cheats singer added: ‘I think I can be honest and constructive, but also kind, and I think that’s the goal.
Carrie noted that “people come in and, you know, it’s dreams, and you’re part of someone’s story from that moment on.”
She continued: “I think it’s important to be honest, but I also think it’s really important to be kind, so I hope I can bring all of that together and be a good judge.”
Carrie replaces Katy Perry, who was first announced as an American Idol judge in 2017 and reportedly earns a staggering $25 million per season.
Last year, Katy was frequently criticised online and accused of “bullying” due to her scathing on-air comments towards contestants.
DailyMail.com exclusively reported that she was on the verge of quitting the ABC reality show, feeling ‘thrown under the bus by producers’ who positioned her to be the series’ ‘nasty judge’.
Months after the controversy erupted on the Internet, Katy announced this February on Jimmy Kimmel Live! that she would be leaving the show after season 22.

When it was announced that Carrie would be replacing Katy, Lionel praised her as a “great judge” and highlighted her experience as a contestant on the show.
“Now we don’t have to explain anymore: ‘We know how you feel.’ As artists, we know how you feel, but we’ve never been in that oval that says American Idol. She’s been there, she’s done it,” the singer explained to E! News.
Carrie became a contestant on American Idol after her surprising audition in August 2004, performing Bonnie Raitt’s song I Can’t Make You Love Me.
The following year, audiences across the United States fell in love with Carrie as she rose through the American Idol rankings and eventually won the season.
At the time the judges were Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Paula Abdul, while Ryan Seacrest held the hosting role he still holds today.
She went on to become a hugely successful country star with a record 25 CMT Music Awards, and is often cited alongside Kelly Clarkson as one of the few American Idol winners who later enjoyed a top-notch career.
