Brittany Mahomes opens up about how she learned to handle abuse on social media

Brittany Mahomes has revealed how her husband Patrick has taught her to ignore social media trolls amid controversy over her public support for Donald Trump.

Mahomes has liked several social media posts over the past week supporting Donald Trump in the upcoming election, a position that appears to be at odds with that of his new BFF Taylor Swift, who is dating Patrick’s Kansas City Chiefs teammate Travis Kelce.

Now, in an interview on the WHOOP podcastBrittany has credited Patrick for helping her block out any criticism she receives online amid her rising fame.

“He’s really good at blocking people out, so having him by my side has helped,” she said. “The main thing he’s always told me is to stop worrying about what people think, especially people who don’t even know you.”

‘I think social media used to affect me a lot. Now, honestly, I don’t give a shit what people have to say about me anymore. And I think he’s helped me get to that point.

“I’m strong in who I am. I’m confident in who I am. I’m confident in my relationship with him and in myself and I’m confident in our lives. So why does it matter what other people say?”

Brittany admits she had to learn this from Patrick, who benefited from being the son of a professional athlete, retired Minnesota Twins and New York Mets reliever Pat Mahomes Sr.

“He’s a lot better at it than I am, maybe because his dad played professional sports,” he said. “I think he was close to it and understood it a lot more than I did.”

“So having him to help me through it has helped me a lot because he’s really good at handling that stuff.”

On Wednesday, Brittany liked comments on her latest Instagram post calling for Trump to win the election and supporting her for voicing her opinions publicly.

And earlier this week, Brittany, a pregnant mother of two, reposted a comment from preacher and author Shane Pruitt that appeared to be a response to the backlash against her.

“Contrary to the tone of the world today…,” the message begins. “You can disagree with someone and still love them. You can have different opinions and still be kind.”

Her husband Patrick has never publicly stated his own political views, but Swift said in 2019 that she wanted Hillary Clinton to win the 2016 election against Trump.

Patrick and Brittany have become close to Travis and Taylor since the singer began dating Kelce last September.

They vacationed together in Amsterdam during the offseason, where Swift was on tour, and both are expected to be at the Chiefs’ NFL opener next Thursday against the Baltimore Ravens.

And they spent time together in Rhode Island this weekend, as Kelce and Swift reunited after their four-month tour of Europe.

The Chiefs are aiming to make NFL history this season: they could become the first team to win three consecutive Super Bowl titles.
