After six weeks of Britain’s Got Talent auditions, the live semi-finals began on Monday as eight acts competed against each other in the hope of landing a valuable spot in Sunday’s grand final.

Eight other contestants will perform each night in the week leading up to the final, and two acts from each night will make it through: one decided by public vote and the second decided by the judges.

The winner will receive a life-changing £250,000 cash prize and a place on the Royal Variety Performance line-up.

The eight acts performing Monday night were Sven Smith, The Trickstars, Trey Braine, Sslaubi Performance Troupe, Taryn Charles, Bikoon, Stardust and Innocent Massuki.

Also performing in Monday night’s show was the West End cast of Disney’s award-winning musical, The Lion King.

It comes after Simon and Amanda’s children rang the golden buzzer on Britain’s Got Talent as auditions for the series came to a close on Sunday.

During the episode, the Japanese Haribow dancers, who somersaulted around the stage doing various tricks, left the judges almost speechless.

They received a standing ovation from the audience and numerous requests for a golden buzzer, which would allow them to go directly to the semi-finals and which is normally only used by judges and presenters, from BGT fans.

Alesha said she had “nothing left” regarding ringing together with Bruno, while Simo said he “didn’t know what to say.”

“My son is literally going crazy right now,” Simon added.

His son Eric, whom he shares with wife Lauren Silverman, walked up and pressed the doorbell along with Amanda’s daughter Hollie, whom she shares with her husband, record producer Chris Hughes.

“They pushed it for the audience,” Amanda said before calling the dancers “amazing.”

Congratulating the dance group, presenter Dec told them: “That’s never happened before.”

Britain’s Got Talent returns for the second live semi-final on Wednesday at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
