Hurricane Beryl was downgraded from Category 3 to Category 2 after passing through several Caribbean islands, including the Cayman Islands and Jamaica, on its way to Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula.
The U.S. National Hurricane Center said Beryl, which was the first Category 5 hurricane in the Atlantic, now had winds of 115 mph (185 kph) after weakening early Thursday, according to the Associated Press.
One person thankful for her good fortune is actress Sheryl Lee Ralph, who weathered the storm from her home in Kingston, Jamaica.
In the region, for the wedding of her son Etienne Maurice to ABC News journalist Stephanie Wash, the Abbott Elementary School The star took to X (formerly Twitter) to reveal that she is doing well and that her home and area appear to have weathered the storm without too much damage.
“Thank you all for your good vibes and your prayers,” he began in a clip Wednesday night, shortly after the storm had passed.
Sheryl Lee Ralph, 67, confirmed she is fine and that her home in Kingston, Jamaica, had weathered the storm that was Hurricane Beryl, but the actress is asking for “good vibes” from people for those who were not as lucky as her and her neighbours.
After pausing for a moment to listen to the sounds of nature coming from outside his house, Ralph said, “That’s the sound of peace returning. We have no lights. There’s no electricity, but we have life. Thank you all for understanding,” he said with emotion evident in his voice.
“Kingston is on the south coast. Beryl’s eye swept us away, but it’s moving elsewhere and we’re thankful to God that the north coast, where Montego Bay is, has been somewhat spared,” he added. “They’re cleaning it up and preparing to welcome tourists with open hearts.”
It was at that moment that she felt joyful enough to sing the chorus of Bob Marley’s classic song One Love.
“So one love / one heart / let’s come together and I’ll feel alright,” she sang. “Don’t worry about a thing / everything’s gonna be alright.”
The actress concluded: “Oh, thank God. I’m praying for sunshine on Saturday for the wedding.”
The following night, Thursday, Ralph returned to his X page to give an update on the situation in Kingston, Jamaica.
“Hey everyone, it’s another night after the storm and I’m so thankful and happy for what we’ve been able to get through safely,” she said while looking directly into her camera.
‘And as I was thinking about all the preparations we’re trying to make for the wedding, with people having their flights cancelled and everything, I was thinking about love and family and connection because I just heard that a family friend in St. Vincent lost everything.

It turns out that her friend lost everything, including her home and her business.
She believes it will take “between six months and a year” until the island of St. Vincent can function again.
She captioned the post X: “There are people you don’t know that need your prayers and good vibes right now. St. Vincent and the Grenadines is going through some tough times!”

Ralph has starred in the ABC mockumentary comedy for all three of its seasons to date.
“So when people tell you, ‘Hey, it could be worse,’ well, of course it could be worse; a lot worse,” she said, before adding, “So I just keep thanking everyone for their good vibes. And I keep asking everyone to pray for others like you would pray for yourself. Just put something positive out there in the world because there are people who need it.
Although Ralph said she was feeling grateful after the events of Hurricane Beryl, she asked her followers to keep Carriacou in their thoughts, as the island of Grenada was previously hit with the storm’s 150 mph winds, according to TMZ.
Beryl has reportedly caused 22 deaths and is heading toward Mexico and Texas.
CNN The storm is expected to bring damaging winds, torrential rains and dangerous storm surge to a significant portion of Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula, a popular tourist area, when it makes landfall Friday morning.
