Toronto-based content creator Emily Durham took to TikTok to share her top tips for success in the workplace.

According to one recruiter, if you want to be successful at work, sometimes it matters less what you say and more what you don’t do.

Toronto, Canada-based Emily Durham took to TikTok to share her top tips for succeeding in the workplace and avoiding the side-eye.

“You could do all the best work in the world, be the best employee, but if you say any of these things I guarantee you will be looked at with suspicion,” he said in the video.

Emily advises, first of all, to avoid saying anything too evasive in the workplace.

“Oh, I know that’s our five-year plan, but I don’t know if I’ll be around for that,” he used as an example.

The recruitment expert also said that there is no need to cajole or make excuses for the job.

“Oh, that part of the project is not my job, that’s someone else’s business,” Emily listed.

“Both things may be true, but you should try to keep quiet,” he joked.

The next piece of advice Emily gave was to never speak negatively about your boss, no matter how justified you think it is.

“At the end of the day, your boss is usually the person who controls how much money you make and whether or not you get promoted,” she said.

Emily’s final piece of advice was to never act like there’s nothing to do at work.

“Will you stop saying you’re not busy,” she urged him.

“The more you say that, the more people will assume your work isn’t important, because otherwise you’d have other things to do,” he said.
