Dan + Shay used their Playoff Pass to stop John Legend from stealing their 21-year-old Spanish-speaking singer on Monday’s Battles round episode of The Voice on NBC.

“I made the playoffs, which is crazy,” Madison Curbelo said. ‘My hands are shaking.’

“I called him from the beginning,” Chance the Rapper, 30, said.

Madison of Westfield, Massachusetts, fought 19-year-old Kyle Schuesler of Huntington Beach, California, and the two performed a bilingual version of Jason Mraz’s Lucky/Lucky.

Madison, of Puerto Rican descent, was excited to sing this song because she could do it in Spanish. Madison said she hoped her performance would inspire other young Spanish women.

Madison also helped Kyle, who said he only took one semester of Spanish, learn to pronounce the word correctly. For the performance, Madison and Kyle played their guitars and sang to each other in both Spanish and English. The coaches gave them a standing ovation at the end.

“How beautiful that was,” said John, 45. “I was really having fun the whole time.”

John said he would lean towards Madison but it was too close.

‘Madison, your voice is amazing. I didn’t know what you were singing, but it touched my heart and that’s the main thing,” said Reba McEntire, 68. “And that’s what matters.”

Reba said she would probably go with Kyle.

“I’m going to be super honest, you two could win the whole competition,” Chance said. ‘Neither of us should leave. I think John will try to steal Kyle away. If I were Dan + Shay, I would use my Playoff Pass right now.”

“Stay out of this,” John said.

Shay Mooney, 32, said the decision was difficult but she chose Kyle as the winner of the battle. Shay was impressed that Kyle learned Spanish for her performance. Madison was saying goodbye when John pressed her button to Steal her, but she was thwarted by Dan + Shay, who used her only Playoff Pass to keep her on her team.

“Madison, you blew us away, you’re just a star,” Shay said. “You have everything it takes to win this competition.”

“Congratulations, you have a week off,” said Dan Smyers, 36.

Team Reba’s contestants were the first to take the stage. Josh Sanders, 35, of Kannapolis, North Carolina, faced off against Donny Van Slee, 30, of Weeki Wachee, Florida, and they both belted out Luke Combs’ hit When It Rains It Pours. They both played their guitars when they played.

Chance the Rapper told them that they were both “head to head” in their performance.

“Either one doesn’t lose,” Chance said.

“Josh, tone-wise, you nailed it,” Shay said.

Reba got emotional saying that it was going to be a difficult decision because she felt like she was really joining them in rehearsals.

Reba finally decided to have Josh beat Donny and send him home.

Team Legend’s Gene Taylor, 33, of Vernon, New Jersey, wrestled with Ronnie Wilson, 28, an accountant from Liberty, South Carolina, singing When I Was Your Man by Bruno Mars. Ronnie said that he was channeling his first love when singing the song. John encouraged Gene in rehearsals to work on baring his soul.

“Gene and Ronnie, it was an incredible performance,” Reba said.

Reba said she was going with Gene. Chance told them that they both had a cold tone and that he was impressed by them. Chance also said that she was going with Gene.

“There are some notes you’re playing that I don’t think are legal in California,” Shay said.

John said he loved working with both of them, but he chose Gene and ended up being the winner of the round. Ronnie said goodbye and left the show.

“Unbelievable, I’m going to rob you,” Chance told Gene.

On Team Chance, Serenity Arce, 16, of Jupiter, Florida, faced off against Bri Fletcher, 28, of Fort Worth, Texas, singing Something You Loved by Lewis Capaldi. They hugged when they finished.

“It was a very moving performance,” Shay said.

John told them that he liked seeing artists come together and collaborate. He said they were both wonderful singers. John said he would choose Serenity.

Serenity’s smooth style won over Chance and sent Bri home.

“Serenity and Bri broke my heart having to choose,” Chance said.

Serenity then hugged Chance and thanked him. Serenity cried and said she wished she didn’t have to say goodbye to Bri.

Dani Stacy then defeated Corey Curtis to remain on Team Chance after they fought singing Daniel Caesar’s Best Part.

Dan + Shay also had Ducote Talmage, 20, a firefighter from Auburn, Alabama, take on Ryan Coleman, 25, a farmer from Chalfont, Pennsylvania, performing Bailey Zimmerman’s Rock and a Hard Place.

John said he’d lean toward Ducote when they were done. Reba also said that she loved Ducote’s tone.

“You guys sounded great together,” Reba said.

Chance said he had never heard this song before. Chance that he would choose Ryan if it were his choice.

“I felt like you were here to win this battle,” Dan told Ducote. “You are a star on stage.”

Ducote won. Dan said Ducote was “magnetic.”

On Team Legend, Olivia Rubini, 24, of Wilmington, Delaware, battled Jackie Romeo, 20, of Massapequa, New York, and both sang the Stevie Nicks hit Edge of Seventeen. They were the last contestants of the night.

Jackie was nervous in rehearsals because she didn’t really know the song, but the coaches were impressed with her performance.

“Jackie, your voice is great, your stage presence is wonderful,” Reba said. “Olivia, you have some pipes there.”

“I thought it was an amazing performance, too,” Chance said.

“I’d say it was one of the most put together performances of the entire battle round,” Dan said.

John ultimately chose Jackie as the winner.
