A scooter driver has died following an accident with a four-wheel drive vehicle.

Emergency services were called to the intersection of Epping Road and Lane Cove Road, in North Ryde, northwest of Sydney, about 5am on Friday following reports of a collision.

Paramedics worked desperately to revive the scooter driver but were unable to save him and he died at the scene. He has not yet been identified.

The driver of the 4×4 vehicle was taken to the hospital for mandatory tests.

Police have prepared a crime scene which was attended by specialist officers from the Accident Investigation Unit.

Both northbound right turn lanes on Lane Cove Road are closed, while two of the three southbound lanes have also been closed.
