A mother who was in the Uber that collided with Brisbane Broncos star Ezra Mam has broken her silence and revealed her daughter suffered a broken hip in the crash.

Mum’s Ford Ranger and the Toyota the woman and her four-year-old daughter were traveling in collided in the northern Brisbane suburb of Bardon last Friday.

The 21-year-old was reportedly moving house when the incident occurred.

The woman has now revealed that both she and her daughter were hospitalized following the “traumatic” incident.

“She (her daughter) has a hip fracture… she has very serious burns from the friction of the seat belt,” the woman told the Sydney Morning Herald.

Queensland Police carried out roadside tests at the scene of the accident, and Mam allegedly failed a drugs test but returned a negative result for alcohol.

Police and the NRL Integrity Unit are investigating the incident and are awaiting the results of a secondary drug test, which could take weeks.

‘I remember looking up and immediately seeing this car turning directly in front of us. “I knew what would come next,” the woman said.

‘I also remember saying, “I need to get out, I can’t breathe.” The Uber driver jumped out of the vehicle… to let us out… the door was stuck, it wouldn’t open.’

The woman was unimpressed with the media’s focus on the Broncos star, saying, “nothing is mentioned about my Uber driver or us.”

She said Brisbane Broncos chief executive Dave Donaghy contacted her but did not receive a call from Mam.

Mam’s management issued a statement Monday saying the star is seeking “immediate professional treatment” in rehabilitation.

“Ezra is extremely remorseful,” the statement said.

‘He is concerned, first and foremost, for the other parties involved and understands the enormity of the current situation.

‘He recognizes that he is facing some personal challenges and, following these recent events, has taken a proactive step by seeking immediate professional treatment.

“We will continue to support you throughout this process and will not be commenting further at this time.”

Lawyer Tom Taylor, considered one of Canberra’s most successful criminal defense lawyers, has warned Mam could face jail time in a worst-case scenario.

“The precise nature of the charges will really depend on the evidence that is gathered as part of this investigation,” he told Nine’s Today program on Monday.

‘There is a little bit of public information known about it at the moment, but there is still a way to go.

“The types of charges and the consequences that will follow from those charges will really depend on the evidence that is collected.”

Police have alleged that Mam was also driving without a license at the time of the accident.

However, Taylor says that might be the least of Mom’s worries.

“The two most important charges are actually those that relate to the drug (allegedly) in his system, if the blood sample that was taken at the hospital confirms the presence of a drug in his system,” Taylor said.

‘If there were injuries sustained (by the occupants of the other car) then the driving and (alleged) drug driving charges are of most concern to you.

“Potentially, if injuries were sustained, the penalty could be up to 14 years in prison.”
