Getafe president Angel Torres has insisted that Mason Greenwood would be in favor of remaining at the La Liga side beyond the end of his season-long loan from Manchester United.
The England striker was suspended in January 2022 after being arrested on suspicion of raping and assaulting a woman.
Greenwood was subsequently charged with a series of offenses which were later dropped, and he was sent to Getafe on loan until the end of the season in September following a United investigation into his behaviour. He has always denied any wrongdoing.
It had been understood that the Greenwood academy product would not play for United again. However, by completing his £1.3bn minority investment in the Manchester club, Sir Jim Ratciffe appeared to open the door to a return, saying a “new decision” will need to be made.
Torres, however, has remained optimistic about retaining the 22-year-old beyond this period and even stated that Greenwood would prefer to stay at the club.

“He has a clear conscience,” Torres told Spanish radio Cope. “He feels very comfortable and excited about staying for another year.
‘It’s a matter they (United) have to decide. There is new ownership. They have to decide. In Spain it has a market but they (Barcelona) have money. Barça’s way of playing would be good for them but it depends on Manchester United. If it’s true, he’ll tell me.
Greenwood has been impressive in spells for José Bordalás’ side, who sit 10th in LaLiga. He has five goals and five assists in 21 league games this season.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe appeared to open the door to Greenwood’s return to the club in his comments this week.
Ratcliffe’s comments earlier this week came as a surprise, although the INEOS boss stressed that he would not speak specifically about the attacker’s case, instead highlighting the importance of making a decision that honored the “club’s values”.
“We need to analyze the facts, judge impartially and take into account what the club’s values are.” Ratcliffe told the BBC. ‘Then we will come out of it with a decision. It is inappropriate for me to comment on Mason Greenwood.
