Australian actress Janet Andrewartha has died aged 72.

The Neighbours star passed away peacefully on Friday in Melbourne with his daughters Eloise and Sarah by his side.

Her death was announced on Sunday, with the soap opera, in which she was famous for playing Lyn Scully, sharing an emotional tribute on Instagram.

“Everyone at Neighbours is deeply saddened by the passing of Janet Andrewartha,” the post read.

‘Loved by audiences for her role as Lyn Scully in Ramsay Street, Janet will be remembered for her wide-ranging body of work, including her memorable role as Reb Keane in Prisoner: Cell Block H.’

The post went on to share some heartbreaking words spoken by one of Janet’s closest friends, Jackie Woodburne.

“Janet was one of the finest actresses of her generation, but more than that, she was an extraordinary woman,” he wrote.

“Passionate, political, curious, delightfully eccentric, generous and funny. She was a faithful friend to me for over 45 years. I will miss her every day.”
