Cody Simpson picked up his guitar again as the devastated pop star returned to music after failing to realize his Olympic dream.
Simpson, 27, a global teen sensation who paused his music career to live out his swimming ambitions, has not been selected in Australia’s team for next month’s Paris Olympics.
He finished fifth in the men’s 100m butterfly final at the Australian selection trials in Brisbane, missing out on a place on the plane to Paris by less than half a second.
It means he will have to watch from afar as his girlfriend, Emma McKeon, 30, leads the 44-strong team at the Games.
And with McKeon already on his way to Paris, Simpson gave his fans an update on Tuesday, posting a photo of himself playing guitar while sitting alone on his couch. To the left of him was a half-empty beer bottle.
Simpson is taking some time to reflect after saying goodbye to swimming following her heartbreak over the Olympics.
He made the announcement in a stylish Instagram post last week.
“All you can do is everything you can to take what you’ve been given as far as you can,” he wrote.

The former pop star reflects after losing her dream of the Olympic Games
He has said goodbye to his swimmer girlfriend Emma McKeon, who has gone to Paris
‘You owe yourself the honor of cultivating your talents with as much fervor and intensity as you can.
‘The privilege of becoming what you are capable of becoming. I left nothing to chance these last 4 years and now I can rest knowing that I put the pedal to the metal every day and covered all the other little details to take this as far as possible and it sure was a great journey.
‘I made sure to be gangster in my training, meticulous in my preparation and fearless in my competition every step of the way. I am grateful for a great career in the short time I have been a professional athlete and I wouldn’t change a moment.
‘I promise that I will never stop trying to do special things with my life. Shoot for the moon…land among the stars. My shot has taken me to a constellation of stars otherwise known as that elusive club, the Australian Swimming Team, forever. Thanks swimming.’
Simpson signed the Instagram post as “Australian Dolphin #838.”
He was spotted enjoying a romantic stroll with McKeon last week, making sure to give his partner plenty of attention before she left for France.
In a cheeky moment, he gave his girlfriend a playful pat on the bum as they walked.
Simpson was wearing a pair of jeans and a black t-shirt, while Emma was wearing an off-white Annie Bing hoodie and black biker shorts.
