The Kansas City Chiefs have launched an emergency response fund to support victims of the Super Bowl parade shooting.
As Kansas City tries to recover from the mass shooting that sent Super Bowl celebrations into chaos on Wednesday, the Chiefs finally took a step to support their community.
The franchise announced Friday that it had created ‘Kansas City Strong’ with the Hunt family and the NFL supporting the cause with an initial donation of $200,000 to kick off the fundraising.
The fund comes after Taylor Swift, the girlfriend of Chefs tight end Travis Kelce, made a touching $100,000 donation to the grieving family of the shot and killed Kansas City radio DJ.
The pop star, who was not at the rally on Wednesday after traveling to Australia for the next leg of her Eras Tour, made two $50,000 donations to the GoFundMe page set up for Lisa López-Galván’s family.
López Galván, 44, died when two young gunmen opened fire on the crowd in a “personal dispute” that escalated.
Two teenagers have been charged as juveniles in the shooting at the Kansas City Chiefs parade, even though a prosecutor had previously said they would be charged as adults.
The suspects, who have not yet been identified by authorities, are charged with weapons-related offenses and resisting arrest, the Jackson County Family Court division said.
López Galván, a mother of two, was killed and 22 people were wounded by gunfire when gunfire erupted amid a crowd of fans gathered at a rally in front of Union Station after a parade through the city. Police Chief Stacey Graves said Thursday that the victims ranged in age from 8 to 47, and half were under 16 years old.
