Kate Garraway has said she feels “honoured” to have been by her late husband Derek Draper’s side during his “final hours”.

She continued: ‘He lived again and again in situations that they did not believe he could endure. So, I think there’s a little bit of peace, but there’s also a sense of unreality to it.

“I think it was a great honor for me, actually. You can’t thank the people around him enough, who never stopped fighting for his life but somehow managed to hold people back.

‘It was a great honor to be there with him for those last few hours and to have that. I think about all the people during Covid who didn’t have that, and I think about all the circumstances where people don’t have it.

‘Of course, that’s life and things happen to people and that doesn’t mean you can’t be there. “You take what they give you, but I felt like it was wonderful to be able to do that for Derek.”
