- The veteran worker also revealed tricks to make trips to the supermarket more efficient
A veteran Walmart employee has revealed secret shopping tricks to help save money while shopping in stores.
The anonymous employee, who has worked for the retail giant for almost a decade, said Go to bank rates their savings and efficiency tricks when shopping.
This comes as Walmart’s profits have helped ease fears of a recession, as the retail leader saw its comparable sales rise nearly 4 percent during the first three months of the year.
The strong performance of the country’s largest retailer could calm some investors’ fears about a decline in spending by American consumers.
An anonymous employee has revealed his secrets to buying cheaper
1. Secret Sales in the Clearance Hall
The clearance aisle at Walmart stores has a secret weekly sale, according to the employee.
“Serious deals emerge every Tuesday as those aisles transform into goldmines of hidden bargains,” they told Go Banking Rates.
‘Look out for yellow stickers ending in ‘5’ or ‘0’ that indicate the biggest discounts. “It’s like there’s a special savings event happening weekly if you know when and where to look.”
2. Mobile App Coupons
Using Walmart’s mobile app can unlock secret savings not found in the store, the employee explained.
“The Walmart app is a goldmine for savvy shoppers,” they said.
‘Turn on push notifications there for clearance events, flash sales, and exclusive mobile coupons.
“It’s your ticket to deals and discounts right in your pocket,” they added.
Coupon savings can add up, with common reductions of $1 to $5. Recently, there was $5 off Kraft Coffee barista roasted coffee.
3. Price matching
Walmart has a little-known price-matching policy where customers can show where a product can be found cheaper and the store will adjust its price.
“Walmart’s price matching can be a secret weapon,” the secret worker explained.
“Simply show proof of the same product in stock at a lower price at a local competitor and they will adjust your previous charge.”
This alone could save tens or even hundreds of dollars a year.
4. Faster checkout with Scan-&-Go
The secret employee recommended customers use the Scan & Go option to make payment
“Avoid checkout lines when possible with Scan & Go in the Walmart app,” the longtime employee advised.
‘Shoppers can scan items directly into their carts using their phones while shopping.
Then, quickly go through the exit when you finish picking up the products instead of waiting to pay,” they explained.
5. Don’t blindly trust reverse discounts
“Not all Rollbacks are the same,” the employee warned.
“Be sure to compare the alleged sales prices with previous prices and with competing retailers to make sure you are really getting the best deal.”
6. Shop during off-peak hours
Weekday mornings are the best time to shop for a less crowded experience
To make your weekly grocery shopping as efficient and enjoyable as possible, try to get to your local Walmart during off-peak hours, especially in the mornings, the employee advised.
‘Do you want to buy in peace? “Avoid weekends and evenings, because then the store is much quieter,” they told the publication.
“Shopping is incredibly easy once the after-work rush disappears.”
7. Ask for help
Walmart still employs plenty of floor staff to help, Walmart veteran said
“Don’t hesitate to ask for help when you need it,” the employee said, adding that Walmart employs many floor staff ready to offer assistance.
“Friendly Walmart employees can point you to items, answer product questions, and even give you recommendations.”
They may also know a good, cheaper brand to switch to to save money.
8. Earn cash back by linking loyalty accounts
The Secret Employee offered his latest tip: Link Walmart Rewards accounts to the Ibotta app, which will allow shoppers to automatically earn cash back on certain purchases.
“It’s a small additional refund that continues to accumulate when the items you already purchase activate bonuses,” they explained.
