Zoe Ball has told her fans that her mother, Julia Ball, is now in hospice after announcing she had been diagnosed with cancer last week.
The radio presenter, 53, who took time off to care for her sick mother, was replaced as host by Gaby Roslin, who stepped in at the last minute.
Zoe thanked Gaby for holding down the fort and shared an update on her mother with BBC Radio 2 listeners as she spoke about her absence.
Zoe dedicated a Bon Jovi song to the ‘incredible’ paramedics Bill and Simon who helped Julia get to hospice this week.
She said: “They were very nice to her, very kind, very funny and absolutely lovely.”

‘Mum is now in hospice, which is quite difficult for the family at the moment. I just want to thank John, Scarlett and Charlie, both Charlies actually, and Sophie and Laura, who are really looking after Mum.’
‘I know a lot of people in the same situation as Jamie, my brother, and my dear mother right now.
“Things are very difficult for my mother right now, I just send her a lot of love. And, especially for anyone who runs the marathon, this special cause.
‘A big shout out to anyone running for cancer charities, especially pancreatic cancer, you are all superheroes. I love you mama.’
She later posted on her Instagram page: ‘Thank you for all your kindness. The messages, letters and cards for our mother mean a lot. Strength and love to the many families and people affected by cancer.
‘Holding on tight and so grateful to the incredible people who care for our mom. We were these bells on the way to the hospice.
