Oasis fans were left furious on Monday when a major technology glitch at Westpac left many unable to buy pre-sale tickets for the band’s 2025 Australian tour.

Fans of the English rock group from Melbourne and Sydney who bank with Westpac missed out on early bird tickets because they couldn’t access their money through the app or online banking.

They flocked to social media to criticize the company for the “inconvenient” outage that was finally fixed at 3:15 p.m., hours after advance ticket sales opened.

Westpac apologized to customers of X, formerly known as Twitter, for the “disruption” and thanked users “for their patience during this time”.

But Oasis fans weren’t having it as they were furious at missing out on the pre-sale, which started at 12pm for the Melbourne dates and 2pm for Sydney.

‘It’s not good enough. It’s not the first time and I’m tired of fake apologies,’ an aspiring attendee at the event fumed.

‘The inconvenience caused is not right and the hollow apologies are so insincere that they make me sick! Will Westpac make sure I get my Oasis tickets? It was lost due to “inconvenient” problems!’

Another wrote: ‘It stopped me from getting Oasis tickets! I had the tickets reserved; I went to my Westpac app to get my credit card details… Something’s not working… Something’s not working… I’m not happy.’

A third added: “Big day for Westpac Banking Oasis fans,” while someone else on Facebook complained: “Just as Oasis tickets go out.”

When pre-sales began on Monday, tickets for the Australian leg of Oasis’ reunion tour were reported to be flying out the door at more than $300 each.

Fans took to X to vent their frustrations, which they claimed was one of the most expensive ticket prices they had encountered.

Australian fans who registered for pre-sale tickets last week and received a special OpenStage code were able to access the pre-sale from 12pm on Monday 14 October for the Melbourne concert dates, and from 2:00 pm AEDT for Sydney concert dates.

The pre-sale codes were assigned through a voting system, with registration now closed.

General ticket sales for the four Australian shows are scheduled to open on Tuesday, October 15 at 10am in Melbourne and 12pm in Sydney.

Noel and Liam Gallagher are scheduled to take to the stage at Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium on October 31 and November 1.

They will then head to Sydney to perform at Accor Stadium on November 7-8.

Amid the ticket sales chaos, Westpac’s outage left thousands of Australians unable to access their money through the app or online banking.

More than 7,000 complaints were reported on technology monitoring site Downdetector on Monday afternoon.

Westpac quickly recognized the issue and has since restored its app and website.

“We are aware that customers are experiencing issues accessing mobile and online banking,” the bank said in a statement when the outage occurred.

‘Our teams are working to solve the problem. We’re sorry for the inconvenience.’

Australians took to social media amid the outrage to complain about not being able to access their money because of the problem.

‘It happened just when everyone was going to lunch. I needed to transfer money because I filter everything through my main account, but I couldn’t make the transfer and therefore I couldn’t have lunch,” said one.

“Stuck at the gas station and can’t pay please hurry,” another added.

Others noted that the incident highlighted the challenges that come with Australia’s shift to a cashless society.

Despite the growing number of Australians opting for cashless transactions both in stores and online, Swinburne University business professor Steve Worthington said cash will remain essential, especially in light of such cuts.

“Cash cannot collapse,” he told AAP earlier this year.

The outage comes just days after the bank ended cardless cash withdrawals, forcing customers to use a physical bank card to withdraw money from an ATM.

“As part of the ongoing review of our products and services, Westpac will no longer offer cardless cash withdrawal functionality,” Westpac announced.

The bank said the change was part of an ongoing review of its “products and services.”

It highlighted that customers will still be able to make cash withdrawals at Westpac ATMs across Australia as long as they use their physical card, and cash transactions will also be possible at branches across the country.

Westpac confirmed that cardless cash deposits would still be available to customers.

Some customers were furious about the change, with many claiming that ending cardless cash withdrawals “seemed like a step backwards”.

‘Like many people, I no longer carry a physical card with me, so cardless cash is really my only option if I need cash unexpectedly. “It seems like a step backwards,” one wrote.

An Australian, who claimed to work at Westpac, explained that the service was removed due to an “incredibly high” number of incidents of fraud and scams.

‘I work for Westpac at branch level and the reason we removed them is because the number of fraud and scam incidents occurring in this capacity was incredibly high. Like 1,000 in the last month,” they stated.

‘Furthermore, there are actually only around 4,000 cardless cash withdrawals per week nationally, which is a drop in the ocean for overall branch transactions.

“It’s too annoying to manage at branch level with frauds and scams and too many people exploiting other people’s internet banking to get the SMS code to withdraw money.”
