A 4.8 magnitude earthquake struck New Zealand’s capital Wellington late last night.
The tremor was felt about 15 kilometres southwest of the city at 23:38 (21:38 AEST).
The quake struck about 13 kilometres underground, awakening the Kiwis.
“I was really struck by it. The initial bang was loud and then there was a big jolt. It made my heart pound a bit,” said one person from Wellington.
“Damn that got us out of bed,” another wrote on X.
“That bang froze me. I thought it was going to be huge,” said another.
