The Bureau of Meteorology says areas of low pressure that have been located along the Tasman Sea all week will continue to bring cold southerly winds along Australia’s east coast on Saturday.

“It will be another cool and frosty weekend in many areas,” warned meteorologist Angus Hines.

‘On Saturday, those winds will bring some rain to eastern Victoria and the New South Wales coast.

“On the other side of the country we have a cold front arriving in Perth early on Saturday morning… a spell of showers with a possible thunderstorm, perhaps a bit of hail and some cold, gusty winds.”

Rain is also expected along the Queensland coast on Saturday afternoon, from Brisbane to Cairns.

The cold weather will bring low single-digit temperatures to places such as Dubbo and Moree in New South Wales, Adelaide, Canberra and Rome and Mount Isa in Queensland.

Launceston in Tasmania will be literally freezing, with the area forecast to hit -1C on Saturday morning.

‘No wonder Saturday morning is cold again. Frost is expected on the east coast,” Hines said.

“Don’t expect temperatures above 16 or 17 degrees if you live in Tasmania, Victoria, New South Wales, ACT and even South Australia.”

New south Wales

Minor flood warnings have been issued for the Hastings River, Cooks River and St George Basin for Saturday and Sunday. The bureau expects the Hastings River at Settlement Point to reach the minor flood level of 1.2m.

High wind warnings have also been issued for the Macquarie, Hunter, Sydney, Illawarra, Batemans and Eden coasts for Saturday.

In Sydney, it is partly cloudy with a slight chance of showers and a high temperature of 16°C.

Victory

A frost warning is in place for parts of Victoria on Saturday morning, with places such as the Mallee, Wimmera, Northern Country and North East districts expected to hit -1C.

In Melbourne, it will be cloudy with a slight chance of showers and a high temperature of 14°C.

Tasmania

A road weather alert has been issued for Tasmanian drivers as icy conditions made driving dangerous on Saturday morning. Affected areas include the Central Plateau, North West Coast, North Central, North East and Western Districts.

In Hobart, it is cloudy with a medium chance of showers and a high temperature of 13°C.

queensland

Strong wind warnings have been issued for the southeastern Gulf of Carpentaria for Saturday.

The sunny weather continues in Brisbane, with the bureau warning of the potential for smoke haze to hit the area.

A high temperature of 20°C is forecast and rain is expected on Saturday.

HUMID CLIMATE

The cold weather will bring low single-digit temperatures to places such as Dubbo and Moree in New South Wales, Adelaide, Canberra, Rome and Mount Isa in Queensland.

Western Australia

Rain is expected to hit south-west Western Australia, with gale warnings issued for the Albany and Esperance coasts on Saturday.

In Perth, the weather is partly cloudy with a maximum temperature of 19°C.

South Australia

Frost warnings are in place in parts of South Africa, where temperatures are forecast to reach -1C in the Mid North Riverland, Murraylands, Upper Southeast and Lower Southeast districts on Saturday morning.

Adelaide will be partly cloudy with a slight chance of showers. A maximum temperature of 15°C is forecast.

COLD WINTER WEATHER

ACT/Southern New South Wales

The office has issued a warning to sheep herders about the upcoming cold temperatures, rain and southwesterly winds expected on Saturday.

Affected areas include the Northern Tablelands, Southern Tablelands and Snowy Mountains.

Cloudy weather is forecast for Canberra, with a medium chance of showers and a high temperature of 13C.

Northern Territory

A high wind warning has been issued for the Beagle Bonaparte and Roper Groote coasts for Saturday.

The sun is shining in Darwin and will continue for the next few days, with Saturday’s high temperature reaching 32C.
