Duncan Toombs, 47, who lives on the Central Coast, New South Wales, left the American singer, 41, an emotional wreck when he sang an original piece about his late father.

Forced to ask co-star Adam Lambert for a tissue, the Can’t Fight the Moonlight hitmaker was stunned by the Toowoomba native’s touching tribute to her father.

The Australian country singer initially caught LeAnn’s attention when he performed John Hiatt’s Have A Little Faith, sending all four judges’ chairs spinning.

Eager to hear more, LeAnn, who became the youngest person to win a Grammy Award at just 14, asked Duncan to sing one of the original songs he wrote.

Duncan went on to sing a moving tune in honour of his late father, who made his living driving trains with Queensland Rail.

LeAnn broke down mid-song and was seen wiping away more tears with each line Duncan sang.

“I just lost my mind here. Oh my God. Can I have a tissue? Does anyone have a tissue?” she said as Duncan finished speaking to a standing ovation from the audience.

Given their shared connection to country music, Duncan chose LeAnn as his coach despite turning chairs for Adam Lambert, Guy Sebastian and Kate Miller-Heidke.

“I loved that song. It was beautiful,” LeAnn told her fellow judges after Duncan left the stage.

“Especially since he hasn’t been writing music for very long. To write a song like that? He has an undeniable talent for songwriting.”
