Colton Underwood has revealed his low sperm count “was a low blow to the ego” as he and his husband had undergone tests with their surrogate mother.
The former The Bachelor star, 32, and her husband Jordan C. Brown, 41, are currently on a fertility journey as they look to welcome a child together just months after their wedding.
Colton, who is documenting their journey to becoming parents in a new podcast called Daddy. – were honest about their fertility issues, as they have embryos created and are in the process of undergoing testing with their surrogate mother.
He said People magazine on Wednesday: ‘I think outside of LGBTQ+ issues (the obvious discrimination and what’s at stake for us), straight couples also need to stop blaming women.
“I think one thing I could at least say, for two men who are going through this, is that I’ve had some fertility issues and struggles, and I don’t think a lot of men talk openly about that.”

Colton was shocked and dismayed by his results.
She explained: ‘I mean, right away, my husband got his sperm count results and he had amazing, great numbers, and I got mine back and all my sperm was dead.
“And I think I immediately thought, ‘Oh, what does this mean? It means I’m sterile and can’t have children now. And it wasn’t a great feeling.”
The Bachelor star felt a little lost when she wondered why her results were so poor and even admitted that finding that out was hard on her self-esteem.
He said: “I think one of the reasons men don’t talk about this is because it’s kind of a blow to the ego. They just say, ‘Why me, I’m an alpha male? How can I not do it?’ Doing the simplest task a man can do? And I kind of had that approach in approaching it.
“I thought, ‘I’m healthy. I workout every day. I’ve got this.’ And then my doctor gave me the results back and I had four sperm and three of them weren’t moving and one of them didn’t look very good either, so I literally had no sperm.’
Colton and Jordan wanted to separate the donor’s eggs so they could produce embryos, so the former NFL player received advice from doctors to get his sperm count back to a healthy level.
He found that exercising more than four times a week has an adverse effect on sperm, in addition to jacuzzi and sauna sessions, and was also taking synthetic testosterone during his football career days.

And over the course of three months I went and got retested and the trend was in the right direction and then [by] In six months I got my numbers back to the point where I could freeze my sperm.
Colton credited his husband for supporting him through the process, as Jordan even implemented the same lifestyle changes out of solidarity.
The reality star said: ‘He didn’t have to do that to me. He was a great support and help. And over the course of three months I went and got retested and the trend was in the right direction and then [by] In six months I got my numbers back to the point where I could freeze my sperm.’
After Colton had the right sperm to contribute, the couple moved forward in the process and created embryos so the star could get back to his routine “in moderation.”
He said: ‘It’s like anything else in life. Now I’ve frozen my sperm, and the good news is that, being gay, you don’t really have to worry about getting someone pregnant, so I don’t have to worry as much about the health and quality of my sperm anymore, so I’m in the jacuzzi again.
Colton officially said “I do” to Jordan during a romantic ceremony in Napa Valley in May 2023.
