A Nashville mother accused of drowning her daughter because she wanted to be left alone cried in court after being denied bail and learning she could be executed.
Brandi Elliot, 33, was charged with first-degree murder and denied bail after she allegedly drowned her seven-year-old daughter Piper in Drakes Creek in Hendersonville on Saturday.
Elliot, who works at a McDonald’s restaurant, cried in court Tuesday as she told the judge that her husband, a war veteran, was living with a disability.
Prosecutors have said they are considering the death penalty for Elliot if she is convicted.
Elliot reportedly told police that she had a bad day on Saturday and that Piper wasn’t giving her what she wanted: “alone time.”

Elliot told the court on Tuesday that she had been diagnosed with postpartum depression when her daughter was two years old, but was not currently under medical care.

Elliot cried as she told the judge that her husband Jon, a veteran, lived with a disability.
Elliot told the court on Tuesday that she was diagnosed with postpartum depression when her daughter was two years old.
“When my daughter was two, I kind of felt bad, like I did this time,” Elliott told the court.
“I had postpartum depression and was given medication for it. I couldn’t sleep well.”
Both his attorney and the state said they did not want him to undergo a mental evaluation at that time.
The accused has no criminal record and works at McDonald’s.
A GoFundMe has been set up for Piper’s father, Jon Elliot, who is a military veteran and was wounded in combat, according to organizer Kip Ziemer.
The page says: ‘Jon will need as many donations as possible for funeral arrangements and basic daily needs, he only receives a small disability check each month.’
Jon, who served in Iraq, posted a tribute to Piper online, writing: “I will miss my little girl forever.”
