A normally peaceful residential street has been thrown into chaos after a man reportedly began attacking innocent people with a machete.
Residents said the man began his attack on Marion Street in Leichhardt, in Sydney’s inner west, about 11am on Saturday.
The man tried to attack another man with a machete in the street.
“The man (passerby) fell to the ground but managed to escape unharmed,” the witness said. news.com.au.
“Then another person was walking down the street with a backpack and tried to stab them and the man held his backpack in front of him to protect himself.”
The man was eventually “grabbed” by police officers.
It is understood the incident is being treated as mental health related.
