Walking along the seashore is usually a moment of tranquility and a way to distract yourself from the worries of life.

But this certainly wasn’t the case for the man with his dog this Saturday morning as he walked along the golden beaches of the coastal town of Bournemouth, Dorset.

A video shared online shows the moment the man came within inches of being swept away by a landslide from a nearby cliff on the road at Durley Chine.

Terrifying footage shows the huge chunk of land and a tree giving way and sliding off the cliff before two rows of beach huts are swept away.

BCP council confirmed that the landslide occurred due to the recent heavy rains the coastal city has experienced.

The video, which has no audio, shows a man waking up in front of the line dramatically fleeing the swept cabins with his dog.

Police and BCP Council placed a wider cordon around the scene after the incident which occurred at around 9.30am

The cordon was an extension of the existing one already established after a landslide that occurred on October 9.

Cllr Richard Herrett, portfolio holder for destinations, leisure and business operations at BCP Council, said: “Following further heavy rainfall, we can confirm that a cliff slide near Durley Chine took place at 9.45 this morning and has affected access to several beach huts and parts of the adjacent promenade.

“This is in the same area of China that experienced a cliff slide earlier this month and a wider section has been cordoned off in the interests of public safety while the Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management (FCERM) team of the council inspects the place.

“We are informing beach hut license holders and will provide updates once further assessment has been carried out.”
