Swans coach John Longmire showed his sense of humor on Friday, making a cheeky comment about pop superstar Katy Perry before her AFL grand final performance at the MCG in front of more than 100,000 fans.
Longmire, 53, left rival Chris Fagan and a group of reporters in stitches on Friday when asked if he would see Perry entertain the crowd.
“I have it (Perry’s music) on my playlist, one of the many genres I like,” he said at the grand finale parade.
‘Fireworks’, I was able to recite, I was hearing them on the way here.
“But it would be fair to say that hopefully we (Swans) don’t listen to it too much when they play it.”
“That’s no disrespect to Katy: she’s a wonderful singer.”
It comes as Perry, who will reportedly be paid a whopping $5 million by the AFL, will be supported by the likes of Cody Simpson, Christine Anu and Mike Brady, the singer of AFL anthems Up There Cazaly and One Day, in September.
Earlier this week, Channel Nine reporter Tom Morris revealed AFL bigwigs told the hitmaker they wanted her to perform their global hits including Firework, Roar and I Kissed A Girl.

Longmire stated that some of Katy Perry’s songs are on his playlist; It comes as the AFL is rumored to be paying the pop superstar a staggering $5 million.
Appearing on SEN Breakfast, the football journalist claimed Perry’s team had rejected a request from the AFL for the Teenage Dream hitmaker to perform just one new song.
“She’s playing about five songs and the AFL was very interested in her playing five classic songs, she wanted to play two new ones,” he said.
Morris added that both sides reached a compromise and Perry reportedly agreed to play only one new song.
“In the end they met halfway and she’s playing a new song and four classics,” he said.
Co-host Kane Cornes, who admitted to being a Perry fan, added that the AFL should have a say in the planning of the hit show.
‘The AFL says: ‘We only want your successes.’ We only want your sausages. We want Roar, Teenage Dream, Firework.’ “They want all the songs we know and love,” he said.
‘You know when you go to a concert and maybe they’re old and all you want is their good stuff. You want their greatest hits.
The first bounce between the Sydney Swans and the Brisbane Lions in the AFL grand final at the MCG will be from 2:30pm AEDT on Saturday.
