A man has tragically died almost a week after he was allegedly assaulted in a shopping center just meters away from a popular tourist destination.
The 52-year-old was found by police lying in the middle of a footpath on the corner of Belford and Acland Streets in St Kilda, near Melbourne’s Luna Park, at around 8am on March 1.
The police had been called to the scene following reports of an alleged assault and attempted to revive the critically injured man.
He was then taken to hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries on 7 March.

A 51-year-old man was arrested at the scene and charged with one count each of willfully and recklessly causing grievous bodily harm in circumstances of aggravated assault.
He was remanded in custody and will appear in Melbourne Magistrate’s Court on May 27.
Victorian Police confirmed detectives are ‘considering’ upgrading the charges following the man’s death.
