Shepparton, Victoria: Fatal crash in Arcadia paralyzes traffic on major highway

A horror car crash in rural Victoria has left one man dead and closed a major highway.

Emergency crews rushed to the Goulburn Valley Highway in Arcadia, south of Shepparton, at around 12.50pm on Friday.

Victoria Police confirmed the driver died at the scene after his car crashed into a tree near the Dawson Road intersection.

The man has not yet been formally identified.

Forensic officers have launched an investigation into the circumstances that led to the fatal accident.

The Goulburn Valley Highway remains closed in both directions between Murchison-Violet Town Road and Union Road.

Motorists are urged to avoid the area and take an alternative route via Murchison-Violet Town Road and Euroa-Shepparton Road.

Traffic delays are expected well into Friday night.

Anyone with information or dash cam footage is asked to call Crime Stoppers.

The crash comes a week after a horrific pileup involving an Uber and two other vehicles 17 miles away at an intersection in Pine Lodge.

Ruby Crowley, 16, was airlifted to a hospital in Melbourne and died two days later.
