Selena Gomez revealed that she doesn’t sleep in her room while attending last week’s Wondermind Mental Fitness Summit on Thursday in honor of World Mental Health Day.

The Only Murders In The Building star, 32, who recently shined while promoting her film Emilia Perez in New York, expressed that her room was “associated” with “a really dark time.”

During the panel discussion, the actress reflected on her 2022 documentary titled My Mind & Me, where she was candid about her bipolar disorder diagnosis, according to AOL.

“I’m a little different from my mom, because I spent too much time in my room and I don’t even sleep in it anymore, because I associate it with a very dark time.”

Gomez continued: “Being anxious is very debilitating sometimes, and yes, I didn’t want to get out of bed for years, and part of it was because I wasn’t doing the work.”

“And you have to believe in yourself to do the work that will really enlighten you a little bit.”

Also during the panel, Selena expressed: ‘I’m a very anxious person. “It’s like doomsday and I think having a positive conversation with yourself, even if it sounds strange, is really impactful.”

“I eat before I get out of the car, and there will be a lot of noises and stuff; if that’s the case, I’m not saying it’s every day, but I have to breathe.”

Gomez added, “And I have to say, ‘This is all a gift, and I may not be in the mood for this, (but) every time I see someone and I end up making them smile, it always makes my day no matter what.’ I sit down.”‘

While opening up about her mental health journey, the Wolves singer opened up about having a close “inner circle.”

‘I don’t have many people in my life, (but) I know who my inner circle is. I have to talk about things.

“And I also have a therapist, but it’s also nice to have people around you who just listen to you.”

Selena further explained, “There is a freedom to let go of whatever it is that keeps you stuck and with that lump in your throat.”

Elsewhere on the panel, Gomez talked about taking some time off of social media, but said she “had to stop trying to defend myself.”

“Because I shouldn’t apologize for being honest, for saying I’m no good, and that’s not nice what you said.”

The Rare Beauty founder added that her mother taught her “that noise will be there constantly.”

‘But it’s about finding that moment where you actually physically say, ‘No, I’m a good person, I’m kind, I work really hard, I’m grateful, and I love all the little things in life.’ I need that reminder.’

However, Selena admitted, “I’m not going to lie, it hurts a little.” I’m definitely not one of the people who can ignore it.’

‘I only speak for my generation because it’s incredible how inhumane people can be with their words and things they would probably never say in person either. It just hurts.’

In early April of this year, Gomez, who is currently dating Benny Blanco, attended the Time 100 Summit and said that taking a break from social media had been the “most rewarding gift” to herself.

In January, Gómez announced that she would be taking a break from Instagram.

However, a day after announcing that she was taking a break from social media, she returned to Instagram to promote a cooking video with Gordon Ramsey.

Also last Thursday, Gomez became emotional in an Instagram video when a young fan introduced her as someone who leads “generations with confidence, style and grace” and someone who inspires kids like her.

She also announced that 100% of sales from her makeup brand Rare Beauty at Sephora on World Mental Health Day would benefit her Rare Impact Fund.

Selena then reflected on her mental health, noting that she tends to isolate herself, which can be “scary.”

The actress, who was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2020, said she will reach out to friends and people she “trusts.”

‘Sometimes isolating myself when I’m not feeling well can be scary. I think all these thoughts. But if I’m surrounded by people who make me feel good and who make me feel like I can say anything, that always helps me,” Selena said, via Page six.

She also noted that she talks to her therapist during these times when she feels mentally down, but she doesn’t “want to call my therapist too much,” she said.

The star also said she loves talking to her younger sister Gracie, 11, because she’s “so sweet and innocent and makes me feel so grounded.”
